Dakota was running... no, he wasn't just running, he was sprinting for his life. His life depended on it. Literally. They get caught now and there's no holding back from pulling guns and shooting them off. It had gotten dark again and the three of them must have been running for hours-- escaped early that morning. Not creatively, but passively. They'd planned it days and weeks before the time came and it had worked! Or rather, it was working so far.
He'd met Logan and Benny in jail, they weren't friends and they didn't share interests really, but they were the only two besides himself that desperately wanted an escape and were willing to risk their lives for it.
Now it's paid off...almost...
Their planning had been long and drawn out, but it only went so far... and they'd reached the point when their planning had stopped.
Plan A: Get away from prison and fucking run as far as you can... Plan B: Stay in prison and rot.... Plan C: Get caught and die... not a hard choice.
Dakota finally bent over panting and looked at the other two. They'd been running for so long now and he knew he couldn't go too many steps more before he collapsed. Just as his thoughts were dwindling, he glanced up and noticed a car on the side of the road. The sun was setting behind the horizon and the long stretch of highway was completely empty except for that car.
An abandoned car... if it still has any juice I might be able to get it going...
"Guys..."
He panted and pointed forward to the car.
"Let's check it out."
Her mother didn't like it when she traveled alone, but Cash didn't much listen to her mother. She was old enough to make her own decisions and if every other weekend she wanted to drive down to Lousiana to gamble on the showboats, she damn well would. It was a long drive, over 16 hours and a boring one too... just desert and every once in a while a tree. The roads she took were always abandoned and long stretches of the highway, so she got tired easily. Periodically, she would pull off to the side and sleep in the backseat of her car-- no one ever bothered her, no one ever came along.
That's what Cash was doing now. She was dead asleep in the back of her '03 Honda Accord, the keys resting in her hand as she slept soundly. It had been a wild weekend and she'd ended up winning more money than she'd come with, which wasn't always the case, but this time around she got lucky. And now, when she woke, it was only a three hour drive back to her Las Vegas apartment.
