"Icecream's good." Mort agreed, "Ok, let's get some." Together they got in line for it.

"So.. tell me.. what ever went wrong between you and Amy ?" Carolina asked out of the blue. Sure she was here for 'fun' but still mostly for business "I mean, I've seen pictures of Ted.. what does he have to offer?" she smirked, not seeing anything in a guy like Ted.

They soon got the icecream and Mort paid for it, being the old-fashioned guy that he is of course. They continued their way over the bazar whilst eating it. He hesitated on answering her question though. It was pretty personal, after all. But then again, maybe this would sorta help him out here. If she knew the real reason, maybe she'd realize he wasn't murderer-like, that *that's* not why Amy cheated on him. He didn't feel at ease as he answered her though. "Uh.. Things were great for a long while. But I got caught up in my writing and stuff.. I guess she supposed I thought more about books than I thought about her." He shrugged, "She said I was never there."

"Ah.. like that" If I could just turn my recorder on she thought to herself, wanting to tape this conversation.. "never neglect a lady, rule number one in relationships.." she mumbled. She didn't know the reason was this simple, she had imagine many things but not something as simple as this. The papers and articles never talked about why Mort and Amy broke up so she let her imagination run free. "I never read it anywhere so that's why I asked. . maybe it's too personal ?"

"Yeah well, I don't like talking to journalists. No offence." He said, "My literacy agent took care of all of that. And of course, he's not the one to inform the papers about anything concerning my personal life like that." He shrugged. He wasn't sure whether he should've told *her*, but he really hoped it would sorta make her back off a little on the journalist thing.

"Ah right.. well.. I don't like bugging people either but it's just something I have to do before I can write whatever I want " she shrugged and threw half of her ice cream away, not in the mood for it anymore. "Since you don't like talking to journalists I might as well go" She glanced at him "I guess I'll see you around or something" Carolina downcasted her eyes and turned around.

Great. Nice way of insulting people, Mort. He mentally complimented himself. He didn't stop her from going though.. he still didn't feel at ease around her, so maybe it would be better to just call this a day. Maybe, if he was lucky, this would make her realize that she wouldn't get far with nosing around in his personal business. Not for a great story at least.

Is this really the right way? It has to be right ? It is.. Make him believe I'm hurt by his brutal way of ruining my attempt to get on his good side. He hurt a girl, guys shouldn't do that. Specially not this guy with his past with girls.. or wives.
Carolina grinned as she walked away from Mort, a little curled up in her coat, seeming smaller than usual, maybe more vulnerable too ? She went home and congratulated herself with her new tactic by pooring in a glass of wine for herself, sweet white one. She curled up on her new couch, together with her laptop on her lap.
She opened a new file and titled it: "How to get upclose and personal with a killer"
He's insecure, he's shy and he's very drawn back. I started off wrongly by going gestapo on my project. It took me a while to figure out how to handle this one. But now I think I know. I "tried" to make up with him by inviting him to the most boring town event ever. He accepted. I'm not sure yet wether this agrees on the fact that he must be boring too.. He said he didn't like to talk to journalists and that was my actingque. I'm hurt and insulted and I don't want to see my project again for a few days, hopefully it will make him feel guilty. He should. Besides.. it should bring back certain memories for this killer..

A few days later, Mort was in the small community's park, sitting on the grass with his back against a tree. He had his laptop with him and was typing, completing yet another chapter of his book. He would've worked at home but there were painters fixing the place up, so he took his regufe here instead. Some people greeted him as they walked past, but other than that there was little distraction. It worked well for him. He hadn't though much about Carolina anymore. He had felt bad for telling her off like that for a little while, but he had forgotten about it when she didn't show anymore. Maybe that was for the better, after all...

and after a few days. Show up again. Still annoyed
Carolina had taken a few days 'off' of her job as a journalist. She wanted to see what would happen. When nothing happened she decided to go back to the old system for a while. Spying on him.. Her new technique didn't feel good yet, but not having a story and therefor not getting the job didn't feel good either. So now Carolina was on her way to Mort's house. She took a short cut, through the park..
