I get outta the tent with my equipment all with me when I'm done. Outside I squint against the bright sunlight, looking for a place to sit where I won't be in the way. I spot Stone by one of the other tents, hesitate, but then go over to him. I dump my bag and the heavy machine rifle that goes with the equipment on the ground and sit down on the opposite side of him, on the ground too so I'm a little lower then him. "Hey." I don't know whether he appreciates company but he can tell me to piss of if he wants to.

"Morning" I greet Sparrow and nod a bit when he sits down onto the ground aswell. "The great day we've all been waiting for" I say darkly

"Oh yeah. Put down your books and pick up your guns, we're gonna have a whole lotta fun." I say, remembering those words from some song I heard before I left.

I don't listen to the radio or watch television since we don't have that at home. "Sounds like a plan" I mumble and get up when the first orders get shouted that we have to line up and such

I get up as well and pick up my equipment again. My helmet dangles next to the side of my bag since it's even hotter when you have that thing on your head. Together with Stone I head for the line where we stand next to eachother in the sunlight.

I put on my helmet and hold my gun in my hands. The backpack is heavy, but I try my best to ignore it as we are standing in the burning sun.

The group is divided in two seperate groups, of which one will go west and the other east. Stone and me end up in the same group (east), and I'm glad about it. At least there's someone I know around me then. And it's someone who's presence I don't mind either.

We march for hours and I am seriously wondering if these guys have any idea about how to move through a forest. Apparently they don't and I am sure that every Vietcong in a circle of 100 miles can hear us crash through the jungle.

By the time night falls the platoon is halted cos we won't travel at night. We've reached an open spot where tents can be built, but since the sun is only just setting we're not in a hurry. Most people take a seat, tired from the long day. So do I, dumping my equipment on the ground and sitting down for a smoke again. I observe the rest of the group. Most of us are young, probably only just outta highschool. Most of us look the same, too. Short hair and army boots. Wonderful. I search for my lighter but seem to have lost it again. Joe: I was leaning against one of the trees, not feeling like sitting down with the rest of these guys. When Sparrow can't find his lighter - again - a small smirk appears on my face. "Hereby I give you the right to take my lighter in case I die" I throw my lighter over to him. Jack: I look over only just in time to catch it. "Gee, thanks, there's a promising thought." I smirk at him but light my cigarette, glad to have a fire. "You want one?" I offer, not really doing much effort to save my cigarettes.. I'll buy new ones from one of these suckers (most of 'em smoke) when I'm finished with my own packages. Joe: "Yea.." I shrug, not bothering to use my own smokes when he keeps offering them to me. Jack: I toss the package of cigarettes over to him, followed by the lighter soon after. "So, buddy," I try a good impression of Uncle Sam, "How dya like yer first day in the army?"

"Intresting." I comment.. not wanting to give away more of my thoughts now. My eyes shoot dark looks though. This is not a war, it is madness.. you can't see the enemy you're fighting, but you know they are there.. all the time.
