Alaura liked to think that she could hate no one, but there were times when she certainly did hate her mother. I mean, how exactly could she expect her to have a choice about being born? To pacify her mother, Alaura just nodded her head and said, "Yes, mother, I'll marry Lord Beckett. Hopefully, that will make up for the inconveniences I've caused."

Alaura wasn't sure if she believed that, but she figured it was best not to argue. So she nodded and pretended like she agreed when she said, "Yes, it's better for us all."

"Extrodianry news came to me today, my dear", Beckett said looking at a sword. "My sources told me that miss Swann is with Jack Sparrow and the former owner of this sword."
He put the sword down and looked at Alaura smirking.
"I believe you know who it is."

Alaura blushed slightly, but couldn't keep her feelings to herself, "James? You mean James is with Lizzy? What are they doing with Jack Sparrow?" Alaura didn't get it. You would think they would learn some sense and stay away from pirates!
Alaura looked up at Beckett with wide eyes and said, "What will happen to them?"

"Our ships are in pursuit", Beckett answered. "I have offered only one pardon, and it is offered to Jack Sparrow. The rest will be arrested for treason and hung."

"Sparrow?" Alaura burst out in surprise. "Why Sparrow? Why not James? Sparrow is a murderous pirate! James is...well...mostly innocent. Please, Lord Beckett, I beg you to reconsider your offer. Please? It's all I ask."

"My dear, you hold strong feelings for James Norrington", Beckett said. "Has he ever returned your feelings?"

Alaura frowned. Beckett was right. James had never liked her. He only had eyes for Elizabeth. She admitted, "No, but..." She trailed off, unsure of what to say.
