Bridge of Love

Elizabeth was hurt deeply and pressed her face in his shoulder blade to prevent the tears. "You know I never meant to do those things Will," she choked, gripping his sides tightly. "Please, Will. I'm happy with you but being married to you will make me the happiest woman alive. I know what I did to you is the most horrible thing I have done to anyone, but believe me Will...I never meant to do it. I didn't mean to hurt you, you have to understand." She sighed, tears streaming down her face. "I suppose you can't handle me anymore can you? That you wouldn't be able to handle me if we were to get married? Will...that was in the past. We can put it behind us. You know I would never hurt you like that again, right? I've done stupid things and you can't handle it from me anymore is shocking. I don't want to loose you because of it; not ever. Please, Will...I love you so much." Elizabeth closed her eyes but tears still slid down her face. "I never meant to push you away. I'm stupid at times, I know Will but that's one of my flaws. When we get married, if you will marry me, we can put it behind and start a new life together. It's what its about isn't it?" She paused for a moment. "Are you afraid I'm going to hurt you?"

Will didn't want anyone else to realize Elizabeth was crying but he couldn't say he wasn't hurt if he was! "You did them though, and it still hurts. And I'm just making your life miserable." he patted her arm awkwardly. "Elizabeth please, please don't cry." he wanted to pull her into his arms and wipe her tears away, make it so she would never cry again, he wanted her happy. But deep down he knew she wouldn't be happy with him if he wasn't happy too. "I don't see how I can understand something like this Elizabeth!" he shook his head, standing up yet she was still clutching to him like he was her lifeline. "I don't know what I know or think anymore." he looked away, her tears were making him feel like crying too but he didn't, he was too stubborn to let her see his emotions like that. He longed to hold her, to have things the way they were before but it wasn't ever going to happen. "Well you have been pushing me away, what's so shocking about that?" he turned away from Elizabeth, not bearing to see her cry over him. "You're already loosing me." he muttered, his eyes flashing with anger at her question. "Of course not!" he growled at her in denial. No way was he going to admit that. "I'm not afraid of you!" he spun around and walked off.
Will left Elizabeth on the deck and, finding the room the captain had given him, locked the door and sat on the bed, his face buried in his shirt sleeve. He feel his eyes burning but he refused to cry, even though his heart ache, feeling like he'd just taken a knife and stabbed himself with it. How could things have turned out this was? "Oh Elizabeth..." he whispered. "I'm so sorry... so, so sorry."

Elizabeth was sobbing but she followed Will but said nothing. Having the door slam in her face made her find her voice. "Will, please; I don't want to loose you. I know what I did was horrible and I want to be dead because of it, so I won't have to hurt you anymore but can't you see that I'm trying to put it behind me so I can live a new life with you. Please Will..talk to me. I never want to let you go and I won't ever do that if you allow me in your wife. The only thing that's not making me happy is that we're on the run and I'm stressed...and scared. I just need someone to hold me, to kiss me...I need you, Will, and I know you need me. I-I don't want to loose you! I don't think I could bear it. Can you try, like I am, to put the past behind? It's hard for me to do, very hard but all I want to do is share a new life with you...of trust...to have raise children with you. Please, Will..."

Will listened to Elizabeth in silence, he wished she wouldn't. Hearing her voice and what she was saying hurt, it broke his heart to know she was willing to keep trying for him, even when he was pushing her away. Why? Why would she do that? He wanted her to but then he didn't. Part of him wanted Elizabeth to leave, let him be a pain in the rear. "Don't Elizabeth...." he whispered weakly to himself, he couldn't handle hearing her so heartbroken.
Will bit his lip and walked over to the door, looking at it for a moment before reaching out his hand and unlocking it. It creaked on the ill oiled hinges as he pushed it open. "Shh." he whispered, placing his finger over Elizabeth's soft lips. "You're right, I'm being stupid... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have treated you that way." Will turned away but he left the door open, he didn't want to look at her, for she was crying and seeing his love cry always made him feel emotional too. "I'm sorry..." he repeated in a whisper.

Elizabeth slowly walked behind Will, not knowing what to say. She was very tensed but just being in his presence...it comforted her. She walked closer towards him and pressed her head into his shoulder blade. "Hush," she whispered gently. "It's alright, Will. I'm not mad. I just don't want to loose you. Am I, Will? Am I starting to loose you? We're both stressed from what has happened but we'll make it through it." She grasped his hand. "We always do. Please, just tell me, am I truly loosing you? I'm trying to put what has happened behind me but even that haunts me, of what I've done to you. I can never forgive myself for that but I can try to change and try to be the woman you had fallen in love with."

"I don't know." Will admitted, tensing when she pushed her head into his shoulder blade. Even though he had to admit he liked having her with him, her presence was comforting. "I know, we're both stressed and I don't need anymore stress." he hesitately patted her back. "I guess you don't either. But don't worry you'll be fine Elizabeth, you don't have to worry, no matter what happens I'll never leave you alone, no matter what you do I'll always be here to keep you safe." he didn't say nothing about loving her, even though he did, and didn't mention whether or not he still wanted to be her lover. It hurt too much to talk about that right now. But no matter what he would always be there for her.

He ignored about loving her, she could tell that he didn't want to mention it. "So you don't want me to be your lover." She said it quietly, her head bowed. "I'm sorry, Will. I know what I did was beyond of being 'loving' and I regret it. Just please answer me, Will; am I loosing you? I can step out of your life if you want me to, if you don't want me to be my lover." She already knew that he wasn't going to answer but she had to know if he still loved her, if he wanted her to be his lover. "Do you still love me, Will?"

Not wanting Elizabeth to believe a lie Will shook his head. Looking her straight in the eyes. "I don't want you to leave, I've always wanted to have you by my side for as long as I can remember. My idea of being together was a lot different then it turned out being... different doesn't mean it was bad though." he sighed deeply. "I love you." his voice was shaky. "I will always love you..." he swallowed as if nervous. "I... I need you."

Elizabeth looked up. "You...need me?" she asked, feeling touched by his words. But she didn't understand what kind of need he meant. "What do you mean, Will? Well, I need you too, in many ways."

"I need you as a partner, and friend... someone to support me with everything I do." Will looked at her in the eyes. "I need you in every way I can think of." he reached out and touched her cheek. "I'll always need you."
