The way of roleplaying

I just wondered about Roleplaying in general, and wonder how common this type of roleplaying is that we're doing on this site. How many different ways are there of roleplaying?

I know that in my class in upper secondary I had a 'roleplaying nerd', a girl, but her roleplayings were that you actually met a group of people and you were somewhere in the woods or something and was acting like a charactor yourself, physically and mentally. I found it really weird back then and there were some talk going on about her just cause you didnt really get what she was into, but I haven't heard much about that way of roleplaying since, does anybody here know someone who does that? I know there were talks about how people go 'insane' and think that they are the charactors and starts killing real people and shit like that, this girl was preaching a lot about this and how wrong that description was and such and yeah I don't really think that bad of it either

Alright, well back to roleplayings based on text, the stuff we're into. There must be lots of ways and styles circling around with how people are roleplaying like this, how they build a charactor, how they start up a story, how they actually write the actions ('me-form', 'he/she-form', 'present-future'-form etc).
I dont know why, but I guess me being really into creations, what the human mind can imagine etc, brought up these questions. I know when I started roleplaying I was writing really short stuff within asterix all the time;
"*she walks to the store*"
but now I'm more into the whole 'writing a book'-type of thing where each post is almost like a chapter of a book, really flowing, a lot of descriptions etc.

What's up with your thoughts about your roleplaying, ways you pick charactors or roleplaying in general?
Doesn't have to get deep and stuff, just curious I guess.

haha nice thoughts. To the first comment about tha girl, i think that way of rp is cool I love all taht cosplay stuff, hehehe .. *weirdo*
and when I used to rp on msn is was always in astrixs, i guess.
On forums I drift in and out of secondary and first person.. now days its always first cause of influences off of hannah and ans who I rp with more than others, I guess..
There are people that rp through gaming too (like your bf on WoW).. which I dont like so much. Its not as freeform as we have it.
I was thining about my char style and I guess im always the 'motherly' one.. as dev is always the bitchy one and hannah is ana-like and ans is jackish .. I dont know why.. crystals always been motherly and it all routes from her I think.. *thoughts* Im always the one that looks after the other chars.. even in ck where my chars a little more tough.. she still clings to people and tries to look out for them.. *shrug*

Lol....that's okay....well the type of Role-Playing that I do mostly ((besides this site)) is called DnD or Dungeons and Dragons. And for that the game pretty much goes like this;

There's one person who is in charge. They are called the "DM" or 'Dungeon Master'. It's basically their world. They can do anything they want to. They are also in charge of the story.

is it where you sit together with people and one has this book and reads from it what you'll do or something?

That's a way you can do it. But you don't have to do it that why. Some people make everything off the top of their head.

but do you just sit there in a circle and 'read out loud' or so you actually move around like the charactors you're playing?

Well there's two....no wait three different ways.

One: You sit in a room with the DM and RP.

Two: You sit in a room with the DM and you have a map and tokens that represent you and you fellow RP-ers.

and Three: You do the roleplaying and when it comes to fighting, someone plays the thing you are fighting and you actually play out the fight with fake weapons.

Have I lost you yet?
