“No Daddy! He’s immortal!!!” Herbert spoke up, hugging the Muffin plushie; he heard Will started to laugh softly at this.

“Aye that’s right. No… I’m 39... Davina was born when I was 23.”
“Wow… than you haven’t aged much…”
Will shrugged smiling.
“Immortal Captain of the Flying Dutchman… keeps me young.”
He laughed softly; Aileen had lost interest long before, and was looking around a little more. She was looking at figurine ships, being two models, one a black brigantine, the other a pale greeny and spiked brigantine.
“What are these?”
“Hmm? Oh”
Will walked around to her.
“Those are hand carved replicas of pirating vessels - The Black Pearl and The Flying Dutchman.”
“Which is which?”
Aileen looked up at him, still bent over looking at them… Will looked at her blankly.
“The BLACK Pearl is the black one…”
“Oh… who makes all these?”
“I do. I carve them from pieces of wood from the actual ships - they uh - went down some time ago. My friend works on salvage - gave me some of the wood of each.”
Her husband was looking at them now too.
“How much are they ?”
“Well… The Flying Dutchman is worth $75.00, and The Black Pearl is $100.00 -- I have greater supply of the pale wood from the Dutchman that’s why”
The couple nodded and started to leave the store. Will lifted Herbert down off of the counter. He leaned down, his hands on his thighs as he leaned to the child’s level. Herbert was looking at the ships as well.
“Which one do you want?”
Herbert looked up in surprise, his parents were out of earshot, heading into the parking lot.
“Pardon Mr.?”
“Which one would you like to take home with you?”
Will was smiling gently as he looked down at the boy. Herbert’s face lit up as he look at the older man. He pointed to the glass.
“The Flying Dutchman!”
Will nodded
“Sure thing.”
He walked behind the counter and took out his key, opening the display up. He reached in and took the replica ship out and put it up on the counter and pulled the tags off of it. Throwing them in the trash. He handed the ship to the boy.
“Now you just be careful, its rather pointy. But she floats and you can play with her”
He smiled and picked the boy up, holding him up as he headed out the door. Herbert’s parents were almost running back to the shop to get their son.
“its okay, I’ve got him and he’s safe--

“Its okay, I gave him the ship.”
Aileen looked up surprised,
“you gave him the ship?”
“Mmmmhmm”
“But Mr. Turner, you’re going to have to pay for that yourself --”
Will shrugged,
“Small price to pay to see a child’s face light up. My children used to love my store and my ‘act’, now they just think their Dad is a dork”
He laughed softly and handed Herbert to his father.
“How old?”
“Hmm? Oh! My daughter is sixteen and my son is fourteen.”
“Oh, well than they have outgrown you.”
Aileen was rather cruel with her words as she got into the car. Will’s eye twitched, but he looked to the father and the son smiling. He ruffled Herbert’s hair as the boy laughed . The father smiled and said goodbye, with Herbert waving as Will turned, walking back into his Shoppe.
Davina had long left.
The phone in his pocket started to ring, playing the annoying tune of ‘Barbie Girl’ by Aqua. He jolted in surprise and reached into his pocket, pulling out the phone and flipping it open, hitting the answer button.
“Hello?”
“Hey babe, we need to--”
“Kyle… call the house phone, I’ve confiscated Davina’s cell phone--”
“WHOA! Mr. Turner I’m sorry I thought--”
“Just call the house…”
Will hung and turned the phone off, putting it back into his pocket.
&&&
About an hour later, Will had cleaned up for the day and was closing up the Shoppe. He turned close the door and locked it up, with the old key. He slipped the key back around his neck and started his short walk home.
He came into his home easily, bumping into his lover, Xanthe on the way to the shower.

She smiled to him and put her fingers to his jaw gently, as she leaned up to kiss him as a greeting. “Mmmmm how was work? Davina told me about what happened-”

“No hunny, you had every right to kick her out and take her phone. She’s been on the phone with Kyle for about an hour now… so if you need to use the phone, you’ll have to use her cell phone”
Xan laughed and patted his stomach, as he rubbed her hand gently.

“Mmm okay… I’m going to go put on jeans and a tee shirt, I’ll see you in a few minutes.”
Will kissed Xan softly, putting his arms around her gently as he did. He rubbed her back up and down softly as he did so. Finally pulling away, he nuzzled her - as their son walked passed, sticking his tongue out.

Will grumbled about how the level of respect that children had for their parents today had crumbled from when he was younger. He walked out of the room. Catching his son in a playful headlock, giving him a noogy, before tossing the kid onto the couch. Their son was actually laughing. Laughing, Will walked down the hall to the master bedroom that he and Xan shared, and closed the door, changing. He came back out, tying his hair back as he walked his daughter’s room. But he didn’t hear her laughing as he always did. This time she was crying. He stopped and stepped back, nudging the door open gently and looked in.
