The captain saunters to Elizabeth Jane Hartford. He's got an eyepatch, a wooden peg leg, his other eye is grey, and his skin is gnarled.
He is absolutely terrifying to her, and is very unclean.
"What would yer name be, missy?" He says. Elizabeth didn't answer. "Ans'r me when I'm talking to ye!"
"Jane," Elizabeth said, giving her middle name. For if these pirates new her first name, then she was in even more danger. But the pirate captain could tell that she was lying.
"Tell me the truth, missy," he said angrily.
"I hardly know yours, Captain," She said. The pirate glared and sauntered away.
Elizabeth looked miserably into the horizon. If only there was some way to save herself from this gruesome fate.
She seemed to be the only clean person on board, her dress still crisp and her hair as if it were just made.
As she looked sadly into the horizon, she heard the peg leg again and she held her breath.
"There'll be no help fer ye out in these wat'rs," The pirate said gleefully. "So ye best be tellin' me yer name ri'ht now as it were, missy."
"I won't tell you until I know of yours, sir," she said angrily. "So it would be fair payment for you taking me captive."
"Aye, that be true. Fine, I'll tell ye my name in exchange fer yers. Savvy?" He said.
"Very well," Elizabeth said.
"I be none other than the Pirate Cap'n Grim Sage. And ye'll have to tell me yer real name now," Captain Sage said.
"Elizabeth," she said quickly, trying to think of a last name.
"Elizabeth eh?" He said. "And yer last name?"
Elizabeth glanced quickly up at him. His teeth were bared, and they were yellow and black, and she shuddered and look down. "My full name is Elizabeth Caldwell." She kept a straight face so as to make sure he couldn't tell she was lying.
"Then, Miss Caldwell, you will be stayin' aboard my magnif'cent ship, The Red Death, and ye'll not have any options but ter follow my command, savvy?" He said, then leering. Elizabeth nodded and then looked up into the sky, praying for some saving power.
As if an answer to her prayers, the crewmember in the crow's nest yelled, "CAP'N! IT'S ANOTHER SHIP!" He yelled.
"JIM, WHAT BE IT'S COLOURS!" He yelled.
"IT ENT FLYIN' ANY! IT BE 'NOTH'R PIRATE SHIP, SAME AS US!" He yelled.
The Captain Sage quickly issued orders. "HARD TO STARBOARD, PREPARE FOR BATTLE! PULL OUT THE LONG-NINES AND LOAD!" Sage limped back to Elizabeth and said, "Missy, it'd not be best for ye to hang about unless ye want ter die."
"I can do what I want, thank you!" Elizabeth said, finally with courage. She grabbed the captain's sword out of its scabbard and fought him until the other ship came along side.
She looked up at the name of it and could make it out. Then, she silently whispered, "The Black Pearl," and covered her mouth. She felt two arms grab her-it was the Bo'sun, and she kicked him down. Then she stuck the sword in his chest and pulled the sword out, screaming. The captain of the Black Pearl swung onto The Red Death, and she saw his back.
A magnificent coat he bore, but his hair was quite different-dreadlocks, a bandana (with a tricorn to cap it off) and several items tied into it. He began fighting with the captain, who pulled out the dead Bo'sun's sword. Then Elizabeth went to the Captain's back and stabbed him. He fell down, dead. She looked up and saw the most handsome man she had ever seen-none other than the notorious Captain Jack Sparrow.
The dreadlocks suited him, as did every other thing about him. He ran up to her in a funny manner and said, "Miss, whatever your name is, it isn't safe to be around pirates such as these who take women for their lust."
"What about you?" Elizabeth asked, not sure so as to trust him.
"I don't. I wait to see if the girl in question loves me first," he said. "Now if you want safety, I'll take you on me ship, but if not, well, that's up to you."
"I'll come with you," she said, feeling a sense of trust from her gut. He grabbed her by the waist and said, "Hold on."
She held him tight, and he swung them onto the Black Pearl. Then he threw four lit bombs onto the Red Death's poop deck and as it exploded, they shot it with canons. Elizabeth ran from the railing to the center of the ship, closer to the Cabin.
Jack did his pirate walk all the way to Elizabeth, who was shaking with fear. Her hair was still nice, and her dress was still crisp.
"Are you alright?" Jack asked quietly.
"Yes, yes, thank you," she said.
"But you're shaking! I think we'll get to land then, eh? Mister Gibbs!" Elizabeth looked up as Jack called his first mate, a man who looked as though he were born old, with a grey beard and blue eyes.
"Aye, cap'n!" he said.
"I feel a sudden need to go to Tortuga, savvy?" Gibbs nodded and walked to the wheel.
"Tortuga? Captain Sparrow-" Elizabeth began.
"Tortuga it is, love. There, at least, we can find safety," Jack said, smiling at her handsomely (or should I say sexily? Even though it ent a word...)
"Alright, you're Captain," Elizabeth said. At least he wasn't as scary.
"One thing, love," Jack began. "Actually, make it two. What's your name?"
"That's one, and it's Elizabeth Hartford," Elizabeth said, giving her last name as well. Jack seemed to be a person she could trust.
"Ah. Very well, Miss Hartford-"
"Please, Elizabeth. I feel I owe you something for rescuing me from their clutches," she said.
"Elizabeth, then," Jack said, grinning again handsomely, "I have my other question for you now."
"Go on," Elizabeth said.
"Elizabeth, love, I happen to have a certain-erm-adventure I'm finishing at the moment when I came upon The Red Pearl, whose captain, Captain Sage, was my rival. Did he happen to put a locket around your neck, love?" Jack asked.
"Yes, Jack, he did. But how is this relevant to anything?" Elizabeth asked.
"Well, this locket has curse-a woman's touch will open it, and the man she loves can choose who will be cursed for eternity in hell," Jack said. "I think he was planning on making you love him with a potion from a voodoo priestess."
"I would never love that slack-jawed idiot!" Elizabeth said angrily! "But, I think you might be pleased to know that I still have it. I
have heard of you and your many adventures, Jack, but, I didn't ever hear of this one!"
"Has anyone?" Jack said, giving a soft laugh. Then he pulled out a bottle of rum and drank a lot of it. He held it out to Elizabeth and said, sounding a bit more drunk than he did earlier, "Want some, love?"
Elizabeth made a face and said, "No thank you, Captain Jack Sparrow." She got up, and feeling a lot more comfortable, walked to the starboard railing.
Jack walked up beside her and kept his arm around her waist. She looked at it but did not say anything. He drank some more rum and then put the bottle down. "Love, look at me," he said. She looked at him from the corner of her eye.
"Trifles, I am guessing full-forward that you are one of those beauties who needs an adventure happen to her-"
"Like Elizabeth Swann, you mean? I know her as well, Jack," Elizabeth said, unwrapping his arm. Then she walked to the other railing on the opposite side of the deck and started blushing. Here was Captain Jack Sparrow, who claimed to love no one but the sea, sweet-talking her.
Jack walked up to her there, too. "Aye, Elizabeth. But you won't turn out so bad. I never really liked her, you know. She even sent me to Davy Jones locker."
Elizabeth just looked up at Jack who looked very sad. "I bet you hated that place."
"Yes, I did, why? Because it was boring. Nothing to do there, and you starve. It's a punishment that's worse than death," Jack said. Elizabeth felt his pain and leaned in to him. Jack glanced down at her head and thought
Ooh, things are going good."Of course, now, I have company, company infinitely better than last time," he said, hoping she wouldn't shun him away. All Elizabeth did was smile.
"Is that so, Jack?" She said. Elizabeth felt drawn to Jack-she felt she was falling in love with a man she had just met.
"Oh yes. And in fact, the scenery is getting beautiful. Look at the sunset on the horizon," Jack said, pointing at the horizon. It looked kind of like this:
"Yes, it is beautiful, I suppose..." Elizabeth said.
"You suppose? Isn't it lovely?" Jack asked a bit strangely. Elizabeth nodded. "So...will you join me for dinner?"
Elizabeth looked up at Jack. He looked back down at her. "I suppose there is no harm in having dinner with the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow, no matter where it is," she said. "Now if you'll excuse me please, Jack." She unwrapped his arm. "Where is it that I will be staying?"
"There are four decks below. The second deck under this is where you'll be staying, love," he said, smiling at his luck.
"Thank you," she turned around, and smiled, blushing. She quickly made her way down and Jack leaned against one of the shrouds, smiling and looking at the sunset.
