"Probably not." Jack said, "They aren't one fa reasoning, dey'd much rather kick your butt den discuss later."
"Jack'd know" Racetrack said, then lowered his voice, "Spot had a big problem wit dem a coupla months back, had ta go ovah and help get it settled. Jack didn't come back fah two days an' when he did he looked like he'd been hit wit da streetcars."

David looked at Racetrack, surprised. He had hoped that he would tell him the story, but Race turned back to look at his feet and started kicking a can that they came upon. He turned to Jack, waiting for the story, his expression expectant.

Jack smirked a little when DAvid looked at him, "You want the story dontcha?" he said, shaking his head, "Maybe it'll pass time. Ya see me an' Spot over dere have always looked ta each udder ta back each other up. Well. He comes ta me about The Bronx. So, I take myself and a few of da other Newsies, like Blink and Pie-Eater, the big ones ya know. Well we get there and it looks like Spot an' Max are gunna kill each udda..."
"Max leads The Bronx." Racetrack put in.
"I get up dere and it goes inta da Civil War. I jump in as soon as one of dem throws a punch at me. Well. it lasts fa two days. And I go back ta Manhattan lookin' like I had a run in wit a stream engine. ya shouda saw da otha guy."

David raised his eyebrows. "I see. So, I'm just going to stand in the background for this one, okay? I don't want to say something that I will later regret."

Jack laughed, "Okay." he said as they reached the outskirts of the Bronx. He heard Race gulp. He knew the Bronx made Race nervous. But he'd have to get over it,they either did this today,or waited another week. Max was a very busy person.
"Well," Racetrack said, "looks like dey ain't here so.." he turned around and Jack grabbed him by the suspender.
"OH no Racetrack, your stayin'." Jack said, "Dere probably at the lodgin' house. C'mon." he knew how to find it from here.

David understood why Racetrack was nervous. This place made him uncomfortable. He quietly followed Jack and Spot, Race trudged beside him, watching his feet. It was eerily quiet as David looked around him.

Jack kept his eyes moving, looking down alleyways as they passed them, and moved around the early risers of The Bronx. He turned down another road and in front of a brick building with a sign hanging off of it that read "Newboy's Lodging House" much like the one in Manhattan. He pulled the door open and stepped in (grabbing Racetrack as he did). He nodded at the man behind the desk and went up the stairs. As he approached the door to the bunkroom he could hear the usual murmor of boy's voices. He went over and knocked,a giant of a seventeen year old answer, "Tell Max Jack Kelly's here ta see him." Jack said, not flinching as the guy looked him over.
Racetrack smiled nearvously from behind Jack, shoving his hand into his pocket and touched his money he kept in there.

David stood between Spot and Racetrack staring at the door. David looked at Racetrack as if he was going to ask a question, then he changed his mind and looked back at the door and the back of Jack's head. Suddenly he felt a sneeze coming on. He quickly pinched his nose, willing himself not to sneeze. The feeling diminished slightly, but was not totally gone. He tried holding his breath. Still, the feeling was there. He shook his head and closed his eyes. The annoying feeling was still there...but so far no sneeze.

The boy moved and told Jack to follow him. They walked down the little space between the beds. Jack avoided eye contact withe the Bronx newsies, not wanting any problems. He looked over at Spot, who was doing the same thing. The boy led them through a door in the back to what used to be a small storage closet. But had since been converted into a bedroom, sitting in a chair was Max,the leader of the Bronx newsies.
Racetrack stayed outside,Max made him nervous,he also owed Max five bucks from a poker game two years ago. He eyed the newsies that were looking at him, he heard one of them say "ain't youse dat Higgin's kid?" and he ran into the room with Jack, prefering to handle Max and not his cronies.

David stepped into the room behind Spot, looking around with his eyes wide. They stepped in and David saw Max, sitting in the chair and he sneezed loudly.
