Jack spotted a man across the room he'd never see before,he had dark hair and round-ish brown eyes,he looked Italian,and it clicked Mafia..but why would da mafia be interested in a buncha newsies?
Race saw Jack looking off,and peered in that direction,he frowned,that was his cousin. He got up and went over, "Benny whaddya crap youse doin' here?" he said,approaching his second cousin.
"What?I can't come offer my congradulations on my little cousin causin' hell fah Pulitzer?" Benny said,grinning,as he slapped Race on the back, "Besides,I got somthin' tah give you."

David watched Racetrack and Benny. He nudged Jack. "I told you something was up," he whispered.

Jack looked up,seeing Benny, "That's Race's cousin I 'as talkin' bout wit him. Benny's in da Italian mafia.Surprised he's actually heah. He usually just shows up fah money." he said.
Race stared at Benny "Youse pullin' my leg.."he said.
Benny stuffed the wad of bills into Race's front pocket, "Gift from da Don,he says if youse guys are gunna be against Pulitzer,he'd support yaz."
Race eyed him,not sure what to say.

David watched curious and suspicious as Race's cousin handed him a large wad of what looked like money. David raised his eyebrows, surprised.
"Woah," he said quietly. "Is he doing what I think he's doing?"

Race pulled the money out of his pocket,his old man had died working for the Don, "If I take dis...do I owe him?" he asked,still eyeing Benny. "I ain't woikin' for him if dats what he's getting at."
"Nah," Benny said, "He's just wantin' tah help,though if ya change ya mind in ten yeahs..." he trailed off,seeing Race's face and shut up. He laughed,ruffling Race's hair, "See ya later Tony, " he said,using Race's real name, "If ya evah in Lil' Italy look me up!"
Race stared after his cousin,going over and sitting back down with Jack and the others.
"whats dat for?" Jack asked.
"Youse." Race said.

"Who was that," David asked, feeling as though he had missed something. "And who is Tony?"
His eyes grew wide when he saw the huge wad of money in Jack's hand. "And where did he get that kind of money?"

"My cousin,he woiks for the Italian mafia." Race said,lighing up a cigar, "An' I'm Tony,what ya tink my birt' name 'as Racetrack?" he said,laughing a little.
Jack stared at the money, "Lotta dough made in da mafia.." he muttered,not sure what to do with it.

David felt like a dope learning about Race's real name. He hoped that his ears hadn't turned red like they used to. He decided to concentrate on figuring out what to do with the money.
"I don't feel quite right about him giving us all that money. No offense to your cousin, race," David added quickly. "It's just that mafias are often a little...crooked," he said, hoping that he had found the right word.

Race saw Davids ears turn red and snickered. "No offense taken,Benny's slippery."
"Yeah, I ain't too sure about it eithah." Jack said.
"Poisonally I's would take it," Race said, "Accordin' tah Benny da Don takes it as an insult if ya don't take his money.Last guy went up missin'..."

David nodded quickly. "Keep the money then."
He still felt uncomfortable about the money, but he felt that it was better to keep it (and their heads) than to return it.
