Thing is, I've been preparing for this thing for months. I've been on edge for months. Watching my every move, considering every word I said that would be recorded on camera.. I guess I ran all out of 'nervous'. All that's left to do now is keep it up, fight for that boy for one more morning, and my work'll pay off. Maybe. Right now I just wanna think it will. So I stick with my surprisingly optimistic attitude. I finish my coffee, hit the shower and get dressed in the pin-stripe suit Ana picked out for me.
Downstairs, Caty comes bouncing through the kitchendoor, briefly escaping the watchful eye of the babysitter to look for her daddy. Instead, she finds Anouk leaning against the kitchen sink. "ANOUK!" She squeals, kind of confused and surprised.

I look over to her, a little aprehensive, but I try to stay calm and force a smile, "Hi, honey." I say, watching her.. struggling to know what else to say. She looks just the same as the last time I saw her, bouncy, blonde and wearing pink.

Although Caty had been really upset when Anouk left, she was full of forgiveness like any child was, so she ran over to Anouk to hug her legs. "Yay! Are you helping daddy bring Tristan home!?" She asked, all excited about the prospect of getting her brother back.

"Yeah.. yeah, I am." I tell her, leaning down to return the hug and pick her up, "Things are gonna get so much better now."

"Yeah! And and and daddy and me finished the treehouse so Tristan's gonna be suuuperhappy to come home!" Caty babbled, excited to see Anouk again, and immediately acting like she was never gone.
I walk back into the kitchen, dressed in the pinstripe suit with worn down Converse underneath. Some things will never change. I'm surprised to find Caty with Anouk there, chatting her ears off.

I grin at her breifly and then glance over to Jack when he comes back, a smile still lightly on my face. "Doesn't Daddy look smart?" I ask her, taking a close look at what he's changed into.

"Yesss!" Caty wiggled out of Anouk's embrace, to run over to her daddy and jump into his arms instead. "I made you a lucky bracelet!" She said, taking a color bead bracelet out of her pocket. She put it out on her daddy's arm, certain that it would bring Tristan home.
Jack gave her a grin, "Thanks sweetheart, you're the best." He told her, making her believe that her help really mattered a great deal. Caty struggled back to the ground again after she gave him the bracelet, and ran out of the room. She returned a minute later, with another bracelet she made the day before. "For you!" She told Anouk, figuring she needed a lucky charm as well.

"Oh really?" I smile at her again, "Thank you, Caty." I tie it to my wrist, glancing between the both of them as I do. The guilt in me is terrible right now. I can't believe I ever left them.

"Is it going to help?" Caty wanted to know.
"Course it is!" I pick her up, giving her a hug, "Now, princess, we gotta go soon. You be good to the sitter, okay? Don't make any trouble."
"I won't!" Caty promised, hugging him back quickly.
"Are you 'bout to ready to go?" I ask Anouk.

I nod a little, "Uh, Yeah." I decide, not really wanting any more toast. I want this to be all over with. "I'll see you again later, Caty. I'll be back." I tell her, leaning down to give her a kiss on the forehead. After that I glance back to Jack.
