It was early in the morning when I got a phone call - they wanted me to meet someone and have a talk with me. Of course I got out of my bed as soon as I could, taking a quick shower and preparing myself for the day, making sure I looked professional. I always look professional and the people I work with know that my work is the way I look.
Once I was dressed I looked into the mirror before leaving my appartment. I wore black - of course - a kneelong skirt with a jacket to go with it and highheels. The make up was perfect. I grabbed my purse - black aswell - and put on my sunglasses before locking the door behind me.
Not even one hour after I got the call I was on my way to the place of where the meeting would take place, sitting in the back of a dark car which came to pick me up.

I'm sitting behind the wheel of my Caddillac Coupe de Ville, keeping my eyes on the road. Lefty is sitting next to me, as more often than not these days. He's smoking one of his cigarettes, causing the car to fill with a thick smoke. I roll down the window on my side. "Left, are you gonna tell me where the heck we're going?" I ask, not looking over.
"Donnie, put your window up, Donnie." He frowns, "I' m gonna catch a f*cking draft."
I roll the window back up, not asking any more.
"Sonnie put up a meetin' for ya. Cos you're a jewel guy." He explains.
"So..? What does Sonnie have to do with me being a jewel guy?" I ask.
"Donnie, do I hafta explain every f*cking thing to you? We're looking for dough here, kapeesh?"
No I don't f*cking kapeesh. But I don't say anything and just keep driving.

About fifteen minutes later the car stops infrond of some kind of hotel it seems. My door gets opened and the driver helps me out of my car. I smile shortly at him, pushing a bit money into his hand before walking towards the entrance. I keep my sunglasses on my nose as I walk into the grand hall which looks classy. A small smile plays around my lips - but only for a moment before dissapearing again. It is business time.

I pull up on the parking lot where Lefty directed me to. Across the road is a grand hotel, and I have no doubt that's where we're going. "What kinda meeting?" I ask, not getting out of the car yet. "Someone in your business." He brushes off vaguely. "We're on a jewel hunt. And she's supposed to be one of the best in New York." "She?" "Get outta the car." He says, and he gets out on the passenger side himself. I look at the hotel once more, then I jerk the key out of the cars contact and I get out as well. Side by side we head over to the entrance.

I walk through the lobby into the bar of the hotel. I sit down on one of the barkrukken, put one leg over the other and order an orangejuice after studying the menu briefly. I didn't have any breakfast yet, but there will be time to eat later. Business first. When I get my drink I take a small sip of it, making sure there are no bits of lipstick on the glass when I put it down infrond of me again, waiting for them.

We get to the lobby, and I spot Sonnie Black walking over to us hurriedly. "Took you f*cking long enough." He looks at Lefty, then at Donnie. I shrug my shoulders and don't reply, leaving the talking to Lefty for now. "Sorry Sonnie. Is our girl here yet?" "In the bar." He looks over to Donnie again. "You gotta make sure she's good at what she does." He shoves an envelope into his hands. "Got it?" "Yeah.. no problem." I get the meaning of it eventually. "Alright, I'll see you two later." He drops his cigarette in a flowerpot and walks out of the hotel. Lefty and I head inside.

I look over to the entrance once in a while and eventually two men - dressed in black - enter the bar. I nod slighty, must be them. I shove my orange juice a bit away and slide off the barkruk, walking over to them. I take off my sunglasses and smile. "Nice to meet you." I greet them.

I shake her hand, "Likewise." I tell her. Lefty doesn't greet her though, he looks around the bar with mild interest. Wiseguy don't shake no hands. Rule number I-don't-know-what. "C'mon Donnie." He says, and he heads over to a corner table. "Alrigh'.. C'mon." I tell the girl in my place. We follow Left to the table where we sit down. I hardly know what we're here for though, so I more or less wait for either the girl or Lefty to talk. I keep one hand in my coat pocket, feeling the envelope carefully and unnoticed. I feel three pointy objects. Diamonds, no doubt. So my assumption was right. Sonnie Black wants me to test this girl, and see whether she can divide the real ones (or one) from the fugazy (or fugazies). I keep that for later though, and I fold my hands on top of the table instead.

"Do you want to drink something?" I ask them, to start the conversation, ordering coffee for them without waiting for an answer though. I put the sunglasses onto the table infrond of me and one leg over the other under the table when I sit down. I study their faces for a moment and decide it is time for the business once the weighter brought their coffees. "So how can I help you, Gentlemen?"

I pick up my coffee and have some, to see whether Left'll answer that. Without surprising me, he doesn't. So I suppose I'm the one who has to do the talking, eventhough I hardly know what this is about. I put my coffee down and I look at the girl. "You deal jewels, right?" I start.
