"Roux..? He's.." "Not here." Blanche interupted Ahmed again. There was something new in her eyes. A certain fear. A fear that if they knew, they'd look for him. And they couldn't use that contact now. That touch with the 'real' world, the world of the town beyond the riverbanks.. it was too dangerous. She was sure that Roux would agree. She thought so. Maybe. "I'm sorry. I don't think you'll find what you're looking for here."

Shaking her head in confusion Vianne took a few steps back, pulling her daughter along with her "Right" she mumbled, still confused. THere was something about the situation that she did not know how to take in. What was it with this guy ? He knew whether Roux was with them ? or not ? And this girl interrupting him constantly.. what was she trying to hide? Vianne did not even begin to analyze the look in the girls eyes. It was fear mixed with something she could not figure out, which only made her want to know what that something else was. Not right now though, one thing that was clear was that they were not welcome. For once it were the river people who tried to keep the townpeople out instead of the other way around. "Come on Anouk, the people are busy, let's not keep them off their work anymore, sweetheart"

Anouk nodded, and followed with her mother as they walked away from the boats. "Maman.. That lady, was she scared of us?" She asked in confusion. Though her mother said she shouldn't believe in things like that.. she saw it in the lady's colors.

At first Vianne did not hear her daughter, she was too busy sorting out her own thoughts. "Hm? .. eh.. I don't know, I think so..did she seem scared to you ? I guess so huh.. but why?" That was something Vianne did not understand, both her and her daughter were very nice people, very unlike the other people in town who disapproved of the riverfolks to knock at the door of their town, and they were the least judgemental persons of all. Eventhough that was something noone could see at first sight of course. Even Roux did not see that at first sight.. Roux.. if only.. Vianne's thoughts drifted off again, and she wondered if maybe Roux had informed his friends about her, told stories of how they ended up being at the scene of the boats catching fire and destroying all they had left.. Vianne quickly shook her head, that was not like Roux, not at all. "Maybe we should come back a little later?" she suggested, wanting to find out why both the guy and girl were contradicting in a way. Her curiousness took over the urge to live a normal quite life away from 'spotlights'.

"Hmm-mm." Anouk sounded in agreement, glad that her mother wasn't giving up on their search for Roux yet. Anouk knew the lady with the bleached hair was lying. Lying because she was scared of something. But she didn't understand what it could be, or why.. She wanted to find out though. Desperately.
In the meanwhile, Roux and Zezette were on their way back to the river. Some of the places that they entered to collect supplies had refused to serve them. But that was no different from what they were used to. And at least, they had managed to make a deal with a local carpenter to buy wood and tools for repairs. Even if it costed them about twice as much as it would've costed anybody else.. As they walked down the sandy path towards the river, the silouettes of Anouk and Vianne came in sight for them.. and vice versa.

gosh, this sure is a strange way of starting the day Vianne thought, looking down at her daughter who had skipped school only to come to the river. It was not until now that she realised how much Roux must have meant to her daughter then, despite the short amount of time they had spent together. She could understand why she was longing for that man again, but her daughter had not been in the same position as her, thank god. Maybe she felt a connection too ? On a different level.. Vianne had the urge to go back to the chocolaterie and use a few herbs in the chocolate, to find out more about her feelings and .. perhaps to figure out what was going to happen ? No.. no.. you have sworn not to do it anymore, not since Armande.. Have a bit of respect and get that thought out of your head She looked up, following the road and realised that two figures were approaching them, heading to the river.. Should she warn them about the strange attitudes of the riverpeople ? or .. were they... "riverpeople.." she said out loud.

Zezette noticed Anouk and Vianne first. She did a double take when she saw the two.. frowning a little as she thought she recognized them. Then she took Roux's arm, getting his attention. "Roux.." "What?" He looked in the direction she nodded in, and for a moment he froze.
Anouk in the meanwhile, looked up when her mother spoke. "Riverpeople..?" She whispered. Her eyes widened when she saw the two. One girl, and a man. They were too far to recognize clearly, but Anouk's face lit up with hope. And before Vianne could stop her, she started running towards the two. "ROUX!"

"huh..? " Vianne stumbled forward as her daughter let go of her hand and ran away "ANOUK!" she shouted after her, following her. Roux? where? when she finally stopped she was in front of Roux and Zezette. "Oh.. my.. Roux!" she exclaimed, not expecting him. "I am sorry for Anouk, she gets excited so easily" She mumbled apologetically, smiling slightly.

Roux stared at them, sort of at a loss of words for a moment. Then, he spoke. "Vianne." He said her name with that trademark accent. He hadn't said her name in months. But it still sounded the same. Pleasant. Like a smile. Zezette took a firmer hold on Roux's arm, half stepping behind him.. that same flash of worry in her eyes that the girl at the boats had earlier.
"ROUX!" Anouk was estatic. "You're here, you're here! I knew you'd come!" She grabbed his hand and tried to pull him down to her level. It took him a few seconds to react though. And when he did crouch, and Anouk gave him a hug, he remained a certain distance. He smiled, but faintly.

"Anouk, please do not bother him" Vianne said in a strict tone, as she saw the look on Roux's face. As if something had changed, he seemed more careful. Though there was hardly a reason to keep Anouk at a distance Roux did seem to do so.. Vianne glanced at the girl, whom she thought she had seen before as well. "hello.." Vianne greeted her shortly, intrueged by the fright in the girl's eyes. "We eh.. we just came from the river, wanted to see if there were any people we knew" Vianne explained to Roux "I mean..Anouk wanted to find out if you were there" she added, not wanting it to seem as if she alone wanted to look for Roux
