Mystique smiled, brushing a kiss on her baby's head. "They took our tv!" Marie repeated when she got no reaction the first time.
"Some of us don't have time for tv, Marie," Mystique said, passing the baby across to the babysitter, rushed off her feet trying to look after two kids and ... Logan. "Byebye 'Rora, I'll miss you," she mumbled, kissing her head again, while Aurora's chubby little fingers tried to grab Mystique's hair when she leaned over. Mystique smirked and kissed the baby's fingers before turning back to the older of the two girls. "C'mon Luce, you're gonna make me late as well," She said, grabbing the girl's hand and dragged her along with her to do the school run before she went to work, skipping breakfast again because she had too much to do in the morning.

Since the elevator was out of order again, Logan had to go down two flights of stairs to make it to the ground level. Once his way he passed by more people hurrying to get to work - like Kitty, the teenager from one floor down who worked at the cat shelter, and Jean, the hot chick next door who should've been a doctor 'stead of a nurse. All of 'em human, and all of 'em living in the building which looked like it had been a pretty grand place a long time ago. Now it was run down, paint chipping off the walls and every second window broken and boarded up. It was one of the few places in New York where humans were allowed to live, and the government liked to make 'em believe they were lucky to get that much.
It pissed Logan off. He was one of the few people who still tended not to listen to what authority tried to shove down their throats. Ironically, this was exactly why it was pretty crucial to get to work on time that morning. He was in enough trouble as it was, after deliberately picking fights with his own 'superior', the mutant that was foreman on the construction site. When Logan left the building that mornin, it looked like he was gonna make it on time for a chance though.

Mystique walked with Lucy to school, dropping her at the gate after Lucy whined and complained about not wanting to go, because all the mean mutants picked on her for being human. Even the teachers picked on her and gave her detention for no reason. But Mystique didn't have time to argue, so she left Lucy at the gate and ran to work.
Half an hour later, Mystique arrived at work. The tower block in the centre of the city, the Lensherr Corporation. The company owned everything, the tv channels, the newspapers, the department stores, everything. Mystique rushed behind her desk and sat down, pretending she'd been there the entire time.
"Raven!" Her boss, Eric Lensherr's number two, walked across the lobby. "You're late!"
"I know! I know!" Mystique sighed. She didn't like being pushed around by the filthy homo-superiors, but she had no choice, they needed the money. They were raising two kids, living in a run down hostel with menial jobs. They barely had enough to live on as it was, with both of them working full time. "It won't happen again, the baby --"
"Yes, the baby spit up, the baby needed changing, the baby this, the baby that. Same excuses everyday Raven, but that phone isn't going to answer itself,"

Logan did arrive on time, if 'on time' meant that your superior didn't notice you were late. He climbed up the scaffolding, grabbing one of the safety helmets on his way up, and joined the rest of the construction team.
"You're late." One of them commented.
"Shut up or you'll regret it," Logan said, dead serious.
The guy shrugged and kept his mouth closed, not about to pick a fight with Logan, especially not when he was holding a welding tool. Logan wasn't exactly known for his patience 'round his collegues.

Mystique's day at work consisted of taking Eric Lensherr's ("Magneto" ... Raven didn't understand these mutant's need to choose ridiculous codenames for themselves. It was just pathetic.) phone calls, making his coffee, bringing him his mail and generally kissing his ass. She hated her job. She loathed it. She loathed the mutants for thinking they were so much better than she was. And to top it all off, she was made to work an hour later after work for coming in ten minutes late in the morning, so by the time she arrived back at the run down hostel she called home, it was already dark, Lucy was already home and doing homework and she didn't even get to see her little baby or tuck her in before she went to sleep. That didn't stop her stopping by the nursery first.
Mystique leaned over the crib where their baby Aurora slept peacefully. She bit her lip and glanced behind her, at the door to make sure nobody was looking then reached a hand into the crib and gently nudged Aurora. The little girl squeezed her eyes shut and starting crying her lungs out immediately.
"Shhh, shh, mummy's here," Mystique said softly, pretending she didn't just purposely wake her baby just because she missed her and wanted to feel needed by her daughter. She lifted her out of the crib and cradled her, rocking the girl back and forth in her arms to soothe her.

To top things, Logan wasn't home by the time he usually arrived. Mystique had to work late to compensate being late, and Logan had been told to stop by the guys in charge of a construction site after work. The hierarchy was pretty obvious, even in a job like his. The workers were all humans, but these guys were mutants. Logan walked in after work, annoyed that he couldn't just go home immediately, and didn't bother to take the seat they offered him. "What?" He demanded to know.
The foreman frowned, "Watch your tone, sapiens. You were late this morning. That makes it five times in two weeks. Once more and you're fired." He announced, sounding pleased with the idea of firing another human already.
Logan raised an eyebrow, not 'bout the getting fired part, but the fact that the man knew he was late. Outside, his coworkers were just leaving. "That all?" Logan asked, an angry glint in his eyes.
The foreman nodded at the door, indicating that was all he had to say on the matter. Logan turned and walked out. His mind worked it out pretty easily. Nobody had known he was late, except for the rest of the all-human construction crew. And if there was anything Logan hated, it was getting ratted out by someone who did it only to kiss mutant-superior's-ass. Logan caught up with the group just as they were leaving the site. Amongst them was the guy who'd commented on Logan being late that morning. He had a pretty good idea that this was the one who ran off to tell the boss 'bout it. Without ever saying a word, Logan put a hand on his shoulder, spinning him around. When the guy was turned 'round, Logan gritted his teeth and punched him in the face. He could hear teeth rattle as the guy smacked against the ground. "Asshole," Logan grunted, carrying on through the group to go home.
He arrived there 'bout half an hour after Mystique got home. Throwing his jacket aside, he went looking for a sign of life from Mystique, Aurora or Lucy. He found the first two in the babyroom, where Aurora was just calming down again. "Hey," He walked over to Mystique and slipped his arms around her from behind, brushing a kiss on her neck.

"Hey," Mystique said with a slight smile, leaning back into his body comfortably. "Bad day at the office?" She asked, noticing he was late home as well, which meant they were going to have to pay Marie double time for the added hours, which they really couldn't afford. She kept gently bouncing Aurora in her arms, while the baby girl gurgled and blew bubbles of spit from her lips.

"Hm," Logan sounded in confirmation without any further explanation. Mystique had enough on her mind already, so he left out the details of nearly getting fired and punching a coworker in the face. He kept one arm around her waist, moving the other hand over to Aurora who immediately clutched his finger with her li'll hand. "How 'bout you?" He asked Mystique.

"Same," Mystique mumbled, simply, not bothering to explain either. Neither of them liked their jobs, neither of them got on well in their jobs, they rarely discussed the details. She smiled a little when Aurora grabbed his finger and tried to pull it into her mouth. "Okay, it's somebody's bedtime," Mystique said, deciding not to tell him that she'd just woken her up. "Say goodnight daddy," She looked at him over her shoulder with a slight grin. It still amused her that they were actually parents. And hell, no matter how grim things got, at least they had each other, they had their family.

Logan met Mystique's gaze, giving her a slight smirk in return. He brushed a kiss on their daughter's forehead, "Night 'Rora," He told her, before Mystique put her into the crib again. On their way out of the room they switched off the light, but left a nightlight burning.
