Maria pulled her hands from his grip, "I don't make it with me hands..." The air in front of her shimmered with head at his annoyance to ask such a stupid question at such an inappropriate moment in time. At least it seemed this way to her. There was a popping sound and a brief flash of fire, "I can only use it when I'm angry... or calm... not when I'm scared." She said.
Anna just watched her with wide eyes. Maria was comically reminded of an cartoon mouse with her bushy brown hair and wide eyes.

"I didn't..." Thomas said quietly, looking at Maria, who was looking back apologetically. Thomas swallowed and looked away from her, leaving Maria feeling guilty. There was an awkward silence before Thomas cleared his throat, saying, "We should head out... maybe talk to your friend that was taken home from school today? Maybe he remembers something that could help us."
