"SEQUEL" TO DANCE WITH ME
Ana: It is a sunny day in Tortuga and I am in the narrow streets of the town. The smell is really bad because of the heat - coming from bodies of people, their shit, sweat and other not too nice, but common things here.
I am walking barefeeted but my shirt is white and my pants are also clean, eventhough they are ripped several times.
My hair is kinda messy but I tried to make it look a little bit nice by putting a bandana around my head.
Other kids in this town are generally dirty - like everyone else who comes here or has some business to do. I run down the streets towards the docks since it was announced that there were new ships going to dock there tonight.
Jack: I stand on the railing, my eyes fixed on the town that we're getting nearer to by the minute. I narrow my eyes, squinting against the bright sunlight. It seems rather large to me, Tortuga. Larger than the town where I lived the first years of my life.
I hear something crash behind me and I whirl around, nearly losing balance. I half-jump, half-tumble of the railing, and observe my father as he tells the crewmember off for dropping the crate. When he heads back to the helm I follow. "Tis not fair!" I start my protests once more. "You said I could come wit' you!"
"Aye, and you did. LOWER CANVAS!!" His father holds onto the wheel, not making any effort to divert his attention to the boy next to him.
"But only for no-time-at-all, it's not..."
"Fair?" He smirks.
"AYE!" I fume angrily.
"Pirate." Another smirk, followed by a bunch of commands towards the crewmembers.
I growl the nastiest things I can come up with at the time and march over the deck, towards the front of the ship. I climb onto the railing and squint again, observing the town where I'll be doomed to stay.
Captain Teague sighs heavily as he approaches his son, making sure to make it audible for the kid. "Get up."
"No I won't." I sulk.
"Aye, you will." He takes Jacks arm and makes him stand up. "We'll find ye a place ter stay, I'll give ye some money an' tha's it, understood?"
"No, you won't."
"Yes, I will."
"You can't." I stick up my chin in a very important manner, as I try to look at my father down the bridge of my nose.. which is hard to do, when the one standing in front of you is three times as tall. "Ye don't have no money." I claim.
Teague grumbles and puts his hand into the pocket of his coat to proof the contrary.. but he pauses, and frowns.
I give him a wide crazy grin. "See? So I better come, not being able to pay fer a bed an' all.."
Teague grumbles and grabs Jacks arm, pulling him with him as he crosses the gangplank. Once on the docks he lets go again. "Where'd ya put it?"
"I'd make a pretty lousy pirate if I told ye." I cross my arms again.
Ana: When I heard the voice of man and a guy argue, I curiously turned my head their way. Apparently the guy stole some money of the man and now I wonder how much it was and if it would be worth to get stolen again - by me.
I walk closer a bit, making sure that I look casual as I do as - I am looking at the ship after all which is... a normal thing to do of course.
I put one hand into my pocket and put the other thumb into my mouth so I look cute and innocent and they won't suspect a thing.
Teague throws his arms up in defeat, rolling his eyes. "Fine! It's oughta last ye long enough t' get a job."
"I already have a job! I'm a pirate!" I remind him, helpfull as I tend to be.
"Shut it." He decides to leave it at this. "Do ye have everythin'?"
"I need a hat." I claim.
"You have a hat!"
"A bigger one." I resist the urge to push my hat back up again, as it tilts over my eyes. "And a ship, and a crew and.. I'll be captain!" I offer.
"The day you become a capt'n will be the day I'll lose me mind." Teague says. "Now, all set lad. I'll see you another time."
"I don't like you." I inform him, as coldly as I can.
"You don't have to like me." And with that, he turns around and returns to his ship.
....I uncross my arms, shoving one hand in my pocket so that I make sure not to lose the money I stole. I have this feeling I might need it. "When I be capt'n, *MY* ship'll be bigger!" I shout after my dad.
And to escape his long death-like glare, I turn around on my (also oversized) boots and want to go into town.. but I bump right into the very first citizin. A *girl*, on top of that.
"Ugh." I shove my other hand in the other pocket too, and go past her.
Ana: "Ugh." I grunt aswell when the guy - who was argueing before - bumps into me. I hold my head since it hurts now.
"Whatch out where yer walking, dumpbass" I grumble and because he has his hands in his pockets I can't even feel if he has the money in it - which makes the entire case worse.
I shoot him an extremly angry glare, turn around and march off.
Jack: Uggghhh. "YOU SMELL FUNNY!" I call after her.. and then I hurry of in the opposite direction, to find a bed, and a ship, and a crew and and.. a bigger hat.
7 Years later
Ana: It is late at night and I am working in the Faithful bride. It is my second job actually since one is not really enough to get enough money to live of. I am holding two rum mugs in each hand while I make my way through the tavern which is full of drunk men and whores. Normally I don't have a problems with the whores. I mean.. it is their way of makeing money and surviving. But it is something I wouldn't want to do.
I put the mugs onto the table of the people who ordered it and grab the money of the table.
Some guys on the other side of the tavern started to make music and the entire place is pretty loud. I smirk and walk over to the bar.
Jack: Escaping from the rain outside, I enter the bar when it's nearing midnight. I only just came back to Tortuga.. in the seven years since my first sea-voyage, I found my ways to get around. My last venture ended quite abruptly as the (unfortunately honest) captain found out I was holding back earnings. Details, I call 'em. Details tha' got me ass fired though.
But I'm not a man to go all woe-me about such a matter. ...er, not tonight at least. Cos I came by some maps that were supposed to lead to blahdieblah and I want ter look at them.
...Sorta hard to find a quiet place in a tavern such as the Faithful Bride though, but I manage remarkably well to keep a low profile by sliding into the corner (at the table behind the plant). I sit down, shake of my coat and dump it over the seat's back, and I pull the envelopes with the maps out of my belt.
"Yoh Ana!" A man calls from the other side of the tavern, yelling so I will be able to understand him.
"What?" I call back with a charming smile. I always have to be friendly - boss order - eventhough it is really hard at times.
"Fetch me some rum and.. come here to sing us a song."
I frown a bit. I don't really like the song singing part for sure since I am not into public singing and dancing and such things. I take a bottle of rum though, crossing the tavern to fill their glasses.
I sigh and curse softly under my breath, I keep smiling, and eventually reach their table. "Good evening Gents.." I smile and take their glasses, putting the rum into them.
"Thanks honey. Really sweet of ya.. now sit down and sing.. I am sure these fine gentlemen." He nods at the musicians "Will play a tune along with your singing."
I groan softly and take the rum bottle, drinking some deep swigs from it. I feel the alcohol work almost instantly, since I am not used to heavy drinking. I see what happens to the people who do it every day and I think it is a tiny bit .. odd.
When I am feeling tipsy enough I even let one of the men pick me up and put me on the table while the musicians start to play a pirate chanty.
Jack: I glance up from the maps inscription as there's movement nearby (..higher in the air than usual, or I wouldn't have paid it any mind). I look at the barmaid on the table for a second, or a second too long, before I look back to the maps. It's hardly an unusual scene for a Tortugan tavern after all. ...Though I would've preferred the lass to bring me rum instead.
Ana: After one song I manage to escape and force Rosie (one of the other barmaids) to take over my singing job. I take a deep breath and walk back to the bar, running with one hand frustrated though my hair because this evening is not.. like I like the evenings.
Jack: As she passes me by though, I adress her without looking up from the charts at first. "Miss.." I finish the sentence I was reading and look up, meeting her gaze. "Now tha' yer done singing, which was by the by quite lovely indeed, could ye do me a favour?" I smirk.
Ana: I raise an eyebrow when the lad addresses me out of nowhere (he was pretty much hidden behind the plant after all). ".. the whores are over there.." I tell him with an amused smirk, pointing over to where the girls are standing.
Jack: A twinkle of amusement comes to my eyes as I lean back in my chair, "You hardly take your honest profession serious, now do ye?" I inquire. "A rum would be good. ...And a ruler. Do you have a ruler?"
Ana: I let my eyes wander over his chest to the edge of the table ".. don't you have one yourself?" I ask him teasingly but turn around to get him the rum. I am pretty sure that we don't have a ruler here.
Jack: I followed her gaze down to the table, locating my crotch (or where it would have been if there wouldn't be a table to block the sight). Once I'm fairly sure that everything's in order down there, my gaze returns to the girl as she retreats to the bar.
Well. If she ain't got a ruler, at least she has a fine arse.
Ana: Not much later I return with the rum to the guy and put it right infrond of him. "I'm sorry, none of the girls had a ruler that was available right now." I tell him. "That's one shilling."
Jack: "The rum, the information, or the conversation?" I wonder as I dig up a shilling and put it on the table for her.
Bugger. I really need a ruler.
"Do you have anything else tha's straight?" I ask, a teasing grin on my features.
Ana: I raise an eyebrow and take the money from the table, putting it into my pocket. "I feel really sorry for you, if you can't help yourself with this one.." I tell him. Actually not that sure anymore if he isn't indeed a eunich since apparently he is in desperate need for something straight.. which he doesn't have.
Jack: "Quite alright." Without further mingling (since it seems that my manhood is at stake here) I lean over the map again, picking the pencil back up from the table and drawing a not-so-straight line as good as it gets. I knew I shouldn't have been drinking before I started this. It looks like an S now.
Not much later one of the whores arrives at Jacks table, sitting down on the chair next to him. She puts her hand onto Jacks knee, leaning over to him.
"Ana said you need some help with something.." She smiles sweetly
Jack: I observe the girl from the corner of my eye. "...I doubt that involves drawing equipment." I smirk at her. "Sorry, luv, I'm busy. Feel free t' come back later though." I turn to her now. "And if you'd be so kind.." I give her a roguish grin, "..to tell 'Ana' or what's-her-name that I don't seem to be the only one in need of help, if a conversation like ours could brighten her evening enough to tell her girlfriends about." I wink at her. "Thanks a lot."'
The girl chuckled, not wanting him to get away this easily. "Oh don't worry. She only did it because she wanted to do me a favor you know.." She ran her hand over Jacks leg slowly. "Why don't you forget these... maps lines.. whatever and get straight to the point?"
Jack: "...Right. Just a second." I sit back in my chair a little and take her hand of my leg, putting the pencil in it and putting the point down on the map so that she's the one drawing now. "Keep it there and don't move it. It's of vital importance." I warn her, with my eyes narrowed as if I'm telling her the grandest secret in the world. "Now, count to a hundred and I'll be back." I wink again and get up, wandering over to the bar.
It's pretty late by now, and a lot less crowded, so I locate Ana where I expected her, washing glasses by the bar. I lean my arm on it lazily as I look at her. Not saying anything just yet.
"One.. two... three.." She counts patiently
Ana: I look at the lad with a small smirk on my face. "You're still here." I state, starting to wonder even more if he dismissed the girl because he is .. missing something.
I take a glass and continue cleaning, making sure all the disgusting stuff of the guests is washed off it.
Jack: "Sharply observed." I compliment her. "Aye.. it appears my work fer tonight is quite stalled thanks to ye." I keep my eyes on her all the time, whether she's looking back or not. "First you deprive me of a ruler.. meaning the wooden thing to draw lines with. Then you hook me up with something t' keep me bed warm t'night. Quite curious, ain't it?" I smirk slowly. "I think ye owe me, Ana."
Ana: How does he know my name in the first place? I raise an eyebrow and put some glasses away. "I don't owe anyone, Mister..." I tell him. "I was actually just wondering if you seriously are a eunich or not." I continue honestly though, not seeing why I shouldn't ask the question now that I have the chance to do so.
Jack: The suggestion alone would be enough to make me cringe. "I could proof not." I smirk, "But I don't want yer friend t' think I would prefer you over her." I raise an eyebrow.
"And you'll still owe me. A ruler. Or some of yer time one of these days, ter make up for what I missed out on mine." I give her a trademark grin before I retreat from the bar again, walking back to the table where the girl's.. actually counting. Idiot. Ah well.
Ana: I watch him walk away and chuckle softly. I shake my head and continue with my work, not paying much mind to the entire event anymore. I doubt I will see him again anyways so why I should I care about visiters in this bar?
Two days later
Jack: I come into the Faithful Bride early in the morning. Ana isn't there, I observe, which is a good thing. I walk over to the bar and gesture the girl behind it. "Luv, could I leave a message?" I wonder.
The girl leans over the counter, showing off her clevage. "Depends for who.." She smiles, twirling her hair with one finger
Jack: I smirk at her flirtations, not minding them in the least. I put a package on top of the bar though, since I'm rather in a hurry. It's small, and since I don't want it to get lost I figure I best leave it up to one of her collegues.
"'S fer Ana, I don't know 'r last name." I tell the girl. "Tell her now that I came across plenty of these, it'll be her time that she owes me." Inside the package is a ruler, of course.
He doesn't know Anas last name.. of course not. None knows any last names of these guys. They might not even know the first name of the girls they shagged.
"Hmm.." She pouts her lips a bit, not liking the idea too much that Ana had him.. though that doesn't mean she can't have him aswell.
".. I will give it to her.." She smiles at the lad. ".. what is inside of it?"
Jack: "..A ruler." I confess.
The girl raises an eyebrow "..... of course" She says, like she fully understands why the guy is giving Ana a ruler.. it is.. natural. It happens all the time.
Jack: "Of course." I agree, cos what else could I possibly give Ana otherwise? I put my bag over my shoulder, give the girl a grin and tap my hat. "Don't forget." I warn her, before I leave the tavern to head to the docks and venture aboard a newly docked ship.
2 weeks later
Ana: I got a ruler. Two weeks ago. I found out it is really handy too.. though it doesn't work as a ruler now. I put it between the spleet in my wall which was always really annoying because the wind blew through it. The ruler fitted perfectly. I bought another one to fix another hole.
It is evening now and I didn't even think of the ruler-lad (who's name I still don't know) anymore. He didn't come back and I didn't really expect him too, eventhough the ruler incident was remarkable already.
I am sitting on the bar, there aren't too many people and I decided that I could use a break now, after a long day of work.
Ana: It is a sunny day in Tortuga and I am in the narrow streets of the town. The smell is really bad because of the heat - coming from bodies of people, their shit, sweat and other not too nice, but common things here.
