Naomi smiled and nodded, the color in her face fading. She was too nice for her own good, but she trusted Kaleb, even if she had just met him, "I'm sure you would have done something by now if you weren't truth worthy."
She knew she had a point there, so she grinned and went to a different drawer. Some thread, a needle and scissors were drawn out for use. Naomi began to measure out the lengths of cloth she would need, passing a smile to him every once and a while

Kaleb gave a heartfelt smile, then sat back down. "Thank you, Ms. Kings. Your hospitality is much appreciated." he said softly. "And though we have indeed just met, I promise you I mean you no ill will. You can trust me, I swear it."
As Naomi began to work on his coat, Kaleb got an idea, hoping to break the silence and awkwardness a bit. "Would you like me to tell you of my travels, love, while you work?" He though she might enjoy hearing of them, and of the world, as she seemed to have the same longing to see the world as he had himself.

"I would like that very much." She said, popping the needle between her lips. She held onto it while pulling out a length of thread, the color a little lighter the the coat material. The scissors were set aside, her bottom placed into a chair. Kaleb must have had a very interesting life, and so she was eager to hear what he had to say.

Kaleb cleared his throat, suddenly feeling shy. He then gave a quick smile and shifted in his seat, and spoke, his voice quiet. "Well, I suppose I'll start at the beginning...." With that he told her his life story, starting with the faded childhood memories of the English sea-town where he had been born and continuing on from there. He recalled each island and country he had been to, and the ships he had crewed upon, telling of vicious storms, pirate attacks, troubles with the East India Trading Company, the people he had met and the things he had learned. As he spoke he watched her, her deft hands sewing, happy to be able to entertain her with something as simple as his own life story.
"After that, the boys talked me into getting a tattoo." He pulled at the neck of his shirt, revealing a tanned chest and an intricate black inking of a tribal sea turtle upon his right pectoral, about 4 inches in length. "Me favorite animal." he explained. With a sigh he straightened his shirt and continued. "The next day I set sail, my heading the infamous pirate port of Tortuga...." he gave a small wave to Naomi, a grin upon his face, "...and then I met you."

Naomi was terribly sucked into his voice and everything he was saying, her head nodding in awe. She was able to sew accurately, even with a distraction. But when he showed her his chest, she accidentally pricked her thumb. It was a small poke, but a bead of blood formed from it.
"That's... Oh, I wish something like that would happen to me. Except for the tattoo placement part. Was a painful?" She asked, sticking the pad of her thumb into her mouth. She considered getting a tattoo once, but she wouldn't place in the same spot as Kaleb.

"Ya okay there, love?" he asked, pointing to her finger.
He then shook his head and answered her question. "Was it painful? Not really. After a while your skin kind of goes numb and you don't feel the needle anymore. It just feels like...like someone poking you with a small stick lots of times in the same spot. Then when it's done and over with, you almost forget its there."

Naomi sucked on her thumb for a while, waving his first question away, "I'm fine. It's happened before."
She wondered if that felt the same as a tattoo needle, but it made her shudder. Naomi continued her sewing, finishing off the sleeves. She held it up, quite happy with the result so far. "You're the first man I've talked to for a long time, you know? Thanks for sharing."

"No worries at all, love. But it's your turn now. I know you said you've never been anywhere, but I'd like to learn more about you, and there must be something you can tell me." He eyed the beginnings of the coat. "Lookin' good."

"Thanks. Well... There really isn't much to tell." Naomi gave a slight shrug and went in weaving the thread to bind the material, "I was allowed out a few times during the day when I was younger, so I took that time to watch the ships come in. When mum finally told me why dad left, I've wanted to spend my life on the sea. I know it's a common story, but I really want this. Mum kept me locked away from the world, and it's not fair. But I didn't spend my time crying over it."
Naomi lifted the coat again and shifted it to sew the back up, the sleeves in place. She gave it a few good tugs, the stitching staying together strong. "I learned to sew, write and cook by myself, so I know I'll be of some use somewhere."

Kaleb nodded. "Aye, you will be. You already know more than some of the royals, who have people do their writing and cooking and sewing for them. Learn as much as you can with skills like that - the more you can do for yourself, the less you'll have to depend on people and the less likely you'll be taken advantage of."
Pausing for a moment, Kaleb gave a hesitant sigh. "Ms. Kings, why didn't you just...run away? Especially now that you're old enough to leave home?"
