"I'm not going to be the common maid or wench. I refuse to be like that." She said with a grin. But when the next question was asked, she looked up with semi-wide eyes. It was a good question, something she had, in fact, considered.
"I've wanted to, believe me. I wanted nothing more than to run, but I just... couldn't. I mean, I'm older now and could pull it off. I'd worry about mum, though." She sighed, slowly sewing in the pockets.

" 'ave you ever thought of taking her with you? Getting the both of you out of here?" Kaleb asked.

Naomi laughed and shook her head, "I want to, but she would want to stay home. She's not the adventurous type. I-"
"Naomi!" When her name was called, Naomi jumped violently. The front door was opened and a woman stormed in. Naomi stood and frowned, the coat piles up on the table.
"Oh, Mum. Hi..." She laughed nervously, but the woman who had come in looked less than happy. But when she caught sight of Kaleb, she gawked.
"Who's this?" She asked.

Kaleb jumped at the sudden voice as well, leaping from his seat as he looked upon the newcomer. His hat fell from its perch on his knee to the floor by his feet. At her question he glanced at Naomi, then returned his attention to the woman. "I am Kaleb Hawkins, milady." he said with a small bow. "I have employed your daughter in a matter of sewing. I am new to Tortuga, and I was quite lost, to be honest. I knocked upon the first household door I came upon - from which Ms. Kings answered. I asked where the seamstress could be found, and Ms. Kings offered to make what I needed - a sea frock, as it were - herself."

The woman sucked on her lower lip, letting her dress dropped after having pulled it up a little to run. Her arms crossed over her chest, and it would be known where Naomi got it from. "Really now? You just happened to pass by out house and she let you in?"
"That's the story behind it. You should go to bed, you must be tired after... work." Naomi said with a false smile, looking to the stairs.
"I'm fine, actually. I didn't get a chance to work because someone said they saw you leave with Mr. Kaleb Hawkins from a bar." She said. Naomi flushed and looked to Kaleb.
"Mum... He's going to teach me how to work on a ship! I can finally get out of here." She said with a hint of excitement. Her mother turned to the man, eyes narrowed.
"Are you now? Now why would you go and do such a silly thing?"

Kaleb swallowed hard after hearing that someone had seen him and Naomi leaving the tavern, but he held his composure. Even though he had just met this girl he liked her immensely, and he wanted to prove to her mother that they had done nothing wrong.
"I would do such a thing, milady, because it is a wondrous thing to see the world, something no one should be deprived of. I had the same urge to voyage the seas as young Naomi here, and I thought, because we seemed to have something in common, that I would help her achieve her dream. However, I do not see it as silly, as it is a very serious thing to fulfill one's aspirations. And, as I said before, I needed a coat. It seemed like a fair deal."

"A fair deal between you two! How do I know you won't steal my little girl away from me?" The woman demanded, on the verge of tears. Naomi didn't want to see her mother cry or argue in front of Kaleb, so she pulled him aside.
"I'm really sorry, but could we meet somewhere in a short while? I need to talk to her. I promise I'll have the coat done and given to you when we meet." She said.

Kaleb's eyes softened as Mrs. Kings began to cry, as that was surely not his intention. As Naomi pulled him aside he licked his lips, wanting to say something to right the situation but not sure what. Finally he spoke. "I'm sorry, Naomi. I didn't mean to upset you mother." he said softly, his voice sincere. "You can drop the coat off at my ship."
With that he picked his hat up from the floor. After putting it on, he glanced at Mrs. Kings, then to Naomi, then left, closing the door softly behind him.

Naomi frowned and watched him leave, turning to her mother once the door had closed. This was going to be complicated. *** It went without saying that Naomi and her mother had fought over Naomi's choices, but the young woman was determined to learn from Kaleb. And so she quickly finished making his coat and rushed out of the house. She wound her way through Tortuga, stopping at the docks. She didn't know which ship he meant, so she tapped a man on the shoulder. "Do you know anyone by the name of Kaleb Hawkins?" She asked. The man grunted and jabbed a thumb at a ship near. Naomi thanked the man, running to the ship. She slowly stepped onto it, feeling a little giddy.

Kaleb had been below-decks, munching on some dried beef and staring blankly out the porthole as he sat with his feet propped up on his desk, when he thought he heard the creak of someone walking on deck. Brows furrowing, he finished the last bit of beef and slowly crept up the stairs, his hand on the hilt of his sword.
