(haha sorry voor mn fucked up kleuren. Judy is een beetje een kameleon.)
Judy shrugged her shoulders, "I know I'm doing good work, you know? It's a satisfaction to know I can really help people... So yeah, I could get hurt, but that goes for every police officer. It doesn't matter that I'm a girl." She lead them back downstairs again.
"Sure." Tom finished the cup of coffee he was drinking and dumped it in the trashcan. He grabbed his gun from his desk (where he'd left it earlier).. and frowned when he spotted a paper on the corner of the desk. He put the gun away and picked it up. Amy's note. Tom's breath fell short for a second. What on earth was that doing out of his drawer? How..

"hm.." Stacy nodded as Judy told her story, it made sense, and Judy did seem like the kind of girl that could manage to do anything on her own. The kind of girl that Stacy was jealous of. When they came back to Tom's desk Stacy saw him with the note and she figured a little teasing couldn't hurt "ooh, what's that Tom? A love note from yer girlfriend?" she giggled and winked at Sera.
Doug looked up and frowned at the little note "Who's that from?" he asked, not knowing anything about Tom having a new girlfriend.

Tom's gaze shot up to Stacy when she said that, almost in alarm. His guts felt twisted, a familiar anxiety settling in the pit of his stomach again. Remembering Amy always caused that same effect. He never did get over what happened. When Doug spoke, Tom's gaze when to him instead. He was still speechless for another few seconds, and when he spoke his voice sounded hoarse. "...It's from Amy." He paused, and corrected himself. "WAS from Amy." Without further explanation, he pulled the drawer open and put the note back in. He shoved it shut again roughly, with a bang, before he walked past Doug, Sera and Stacy towards the stairs to fetch a bulletproof vest.

"ex-girlfriend then?" Stacy asked Doug as she watched Tom walk away.
Doug shrugged "I guess you could say that.. She eh.. Amy was killed, at a gasstation by a guy who tried to rob the place"
"..r-really?" Stacy turned pale and glanced at Sera, not knowing that what they'd done was so mean. "Ehm.. I'll be right back" she whispered and followed in Tom's direction.

Sera bit her lip hesitantly, watching Stacy follow after Tom. She wasn't sure whether to tell her not to - maybe Tom wanted to drop the subject? But she didn't know why her judgement would be any better than Stacy's, so she let Stacy go and kept her mouth shut.
Upstairs, Tom jerked open a locker and grabbed a bulletproof vest from it. Mechanically, he stripped off his button-up shirt, and put the vest over the white T-shirt he was wearing underneath. He tried hard not to think, but those seconds in the gasstation were echoing in his head again.
'Tom...?' The sound of a glass jar breaking. The way that murderer had swept his gun towards her, and then Tom himself, frozen, shouting her name. 'AMY!' The gunshot.. the sound of her falling.
Tom took a deep breath and put his forearm against the locker, leaning his head against the cool steel below it.

Stacy walked up to Tom, slowly and silently "Tom?" She broke the silence and tried to see if he was crying or not. The way he was leaning against locker made her feel even worse because he really seemed dreadfully cut up by the note he found. "I eh.. that note was my fault.." she spoke up "I snooped around in your drawer. I'm sorry.. I didn't know that.." she didnt know what to say to make him feel better.

Tom closed his eyes when she started to talk, fighting back memories. He had dealt with them before. Maybe he wasn't over what happened, but he dealt with it every day. So now should be no exception. He collected his thoughts and took a deep breath. Stacey was hardly the person he should break down in front of. So he pushed himself from the locker, straightening his back and looking over to her. He figured Doug had told her about what happened to Amy. "It's okay." He said, grabbing his button up shirt again and putting that over the bulletproof vest he now wore. "You didn't know." His voice sounded more flat than usual though. It betrayed that this shook him more than he let on. He was being awefully careful to sound normal, and due to that, failing at it.

Which Stacy noticed obviously. She felt sorry for him and terribly guilty herself. It was due to her curiosity and her stupid idea of getting back at him for lying that he was feeling shitty himself now. "But I had no right to be so mean" she mumbled and came a bit closer. For the first time since she had met him one and a half week ago Tom now seemed different.. more vulnerable. "I'm sorry.." she said and, awkwardly but persistently she came close enough to give him a small hug.

He didn't really react to her hug at first, feeling a little awkward about it. But eventually he just embraced her. "It's really okay," He mumbled, trying to sound normal as he could. This wasn't about him. This was about some killer out there on the streets, hunting after girls like Stacy. He should remember to prioritize that.
Stacy seemed pretty shaken too though. So he held her a second longer. "You know, after what happened with Amy.. I thought about quitting my job as a police officer." He told her honestly. "I thought it'd be stupid to think I could protect citizins if I couldn't even stop some guy from killing my own girlfriend. But.. yknow, I know better than that, now. Nobody could've stopped that from happening. And it's no reason for me not to be out there and help when I can help." He broke the embrace and looked at Stacy. "And I wanna help you. So.. let's do what we can, okay? Let's solve the case that matters now."

She nodded in silence and leaned against the locker "Sometimes those crazy things just happen yknow...I'm pretty sure that whatever happened to Amy is not your fault, you don't seem like the type of guy that puts other peoples lives in danger. She probably knew that too" Stacy said with a small smile. "And you're making a big difference to all of those other people you're helping, like me for instance" She smirked a little "I'm really glad you and Doug bugged us that day on the streets"
