Quinn looked at him with a blank expression. "Well, I don't know what 'they' say, Captain, I must admit I have no idea who you are besides a man who has shown me kindness," She smiled a little. "So tell me of your adventures, you're life must be so exciting,"

Jack gave a little chuckle. "You must've lived your life under a rock to have not heard of me," he replied, though not egotistically, nor meanly. It was just strange - yet refreshing - for him to talk to someone who did not know of him, especially when she was a native to Tortuga. Some of his biggest fans, other than the Royal Navy, resided there. "Ya see, I have a bit of a reputation that tends to precede me wherever I go. I'm a pirate, obviously, and dependin' on who you speak to I'm either the best at what I do, or the worst. I owe a lot of different people money, so that puts me on bad terms with some, but with others I've shared spoils with them that made them more rich than they could have ever imagined. As for me adventures, that would probably take a lifetime in itself to regale you with. Let's just say I've been a lot of places others haven't, and I've done some...decidedly risky and dangerous things."

"Mm," Quinn grinned, "Sounds like fun." She laughed. "I suppose, joining your crew would make me a pirate too now? That's strange ... but exciting. I never even considered piracy before,"

Jack grinned. "Indeed, some of it has been wondrous fun - and some of it has been hell on Earth. It's all just a roll of the dice sometimes," he mused. He then gave a nod, an amused glint in his eyes. "Aye, you're on your way to becoming a pirate. You can call yourself one, and even dress the part, but you have to prove yourself one, too. You'll get that chance once we get out to sea. It's not all that bad, to live the pirate's life...otherwise I wouldn't have been doing it my entire life and the seas wouldn't be filled with them, if there wasn't some promise within it, savvy?"

"Aye!" Quinn giggled."I look forward to my chance to prove myself, I just hope I don't get seasick. I've never been off Tortuga before,"

Jack's eyes widened. "Really? Have you ever been on a ship before?" he wondered. It might take a while for her to prove herself then, for most of his journeys were as rough as they come.

"I'm sure I went fishing with my father once or twice when I was younger, but a ship ... no," Quinn smiled with embarrassment, taking another sip of her rum.

"I'm sure you'll do okay, love," he reassured, offering her a smile. Inwardly, he wished her good luck. "Once you get that feeling that comes when you sail the open seas, knowing you're free and traveling to some tropical locale with beautiful woman - or men, in your case - lots of rum and some treasure, you'll forget all about being sick." He grinned.

Quinn laughed, keeping her gaze on him. "It does sound good. I hope you don't think I'm just some silly little girl because of all this, I promise I'll prove my worth, you'll eat like a king," It was her turn to grin.

I wait until we head into the tavern to barter over the map, and then when we find a place to sit, I finally reply, "About 10 shillings." I tell him, "But you can buy a few drinks this evening and we'll call it 5."
