She pursed her lips. She liked the way he put it. "Aye. . It's funny. I intended to get off at the first port we stopped at, but the sea juss drew me in. . ." She looked thoughtful for a moment then shrugged and took a swig of rum. "But that's all old news, I hate thinkin' 'bout the past." She mumbled into her rum. She wanted to change the subject but was unsure of what to say. It's not like she could ask what he was doing in Tortuga-- This is Jack Sparrow, after all.

Jack got the clue that she wanted to change the subject and did so obligingly. "No worries, love. I know how that goes, believe it or not." And that was true. Despite his general outward optimism about pretty much anything, there had been some very dark times in his own past as well. His eyes might have betrayed that fact for the briefest of moments even as he did not elaborate further, and he looked away from her awkwardly, hopefully before she noticed.
He then lofted a bemused brow. "I do have just one more question though - if you do not like Tortuga, what are you doing back?"

Astoria raised an eyebrow as Sparrow made a funny face at the subject. She could tell he understood and momentarily wondered about his past. In her eyes a persons past shapes who they are today. . She has plenty of evidence to back that up too. However, she never questioned anyone about their past; She hated it when people did it to her, so why would she do it to anyone else?
She looked at her rum then stared off into the distance at nothing in particular. "The crew was weak, we were runnin' low on supplies. . Hadn't had a drop of rum in three days. . And the ship suffered some minor damage in a storm." She shrugged. "Hadn't been here in nine years, but I didn't have much of a choice now."

Jack had to suppress a shiver, genuinely distressed at what she had said. "No rum for three days? I'd find the nearest port as well."
He shook his head, then gave a slight shrug, his tone honest as he continued. "Well, I hope you can get yourself off this crazy rock quick then, eh? For your sake. I'd just be careful once you get out to the open sea," he warned. "The Royal Navy has been creeping about not far from here. We almost had what would have been a decidedly miserable encounter with them just before the Pearl made berth. Luckily for us a fog settled in and we slipped right by." What he did not add was that the Navy was after him and his ship.

She chuckled at his shiver and his comment about not having rum. . So the fact that he basically lived off of rum was true. She wondered what other things she's heard about him where true.
She nodded. "Aye, so I hear. ." A small smirk played on the corners of her mouth as she thought about the most resent story one of her new crew members told her and decided to mess with him. . Just a little. "Hmm.. I wonder if it was Commodore Norrington." She took a swig of her rum nonchalantly.

Jack's eyes widened and he shifted nervously in his seat, his mouth pulling into a grimace. "Know of the Commodore's little game then, do ya missy?" he asked softly, wondering how in the world news managed to travel so fast. Vaguely the Captain of the Pearl wondered if there wasn't some poor marooned bastard out in the middle of nowhere learning of his predicament with the Navy via sea turtles, or smoke signals. "You gonna do something about it, like tip him off?" he then asked, his eyes narrowing dangerously.

Astoria nodded in response to his first question. She chugged the last of her rum, then ordered two more, one for herself and one for Jack. The only reason she knew was because she had just picked up a few new crew members about two months ago in Port James and the one has been telling the story he's heard over and over again. She didn't believe any of it until now. . Actually, she still doesn't believe most of it-- The whole cursed ship thing-- Sounded all like ghost, sailor stories to her. She shrugged. "Well, cap'n.. I juss might. Then again I might not. It all depends."

"Really?" Jack wondered, ignoring the rum that had been set down before him and looking slightly incredulous as he met Astoria's gaze. "On what?"

For someone that was said to be a master at negotiations, clearly Jack didn't see this one coming. Astoria laughed slightly to herself. She stood up, with her rum and began walking back and forth thinking. "Well. . ." She took a sip of rum. "what have ya got for me?" Yes. . This was rather amusing.

Jack stood as well, his dark eyes watching Astoria carefully. His hand came to rest on the hilt of his sword, which hung at his hip in a hard leather scabbard. He hated to threaten, but if that's what it came down to for his survival, then so be it. "How 'bout a piece of steel lodged in your heart?"
