Jack couldn't help but grin. He loved being famous - or maybe, infamous. "Ah, so you have heard of me," he replied softly, popping the last bit of bread into his mouth. He thought a moment as he chewed, then glanced back at the other captain. His shoulder lifted in the slightest of shrugs. "So how come I never heard of you?" he wondered. "Haven't put your name quite on the map yet, love? 'Cause it sounds like you're in need of some swag findin', or maybe a port to plunder."

I pick out another, far more expensive, well detailed one, and show it to him, "This one. No doubt about it, you'll find plenty." I watch for his reaction, trying desperately to get a good sale out of him, he seems the convinceable type.

Bailey barely looks at the map before he tucks it under his arms and passes her the coins, "Now how much would a drink with a beautiful map-seller cost me?" He asked with a cheeky smile, "That's a drink - nothing more," He added quickly, before he could receive a slap.

((My last post for now. . . I'll be back in about an hour.)) She laughed quietly, and swirled the rum around in the mug "I'm not your average pirate cap'n. . . I'm not one to brag about things I've done or seen, I hate Tortuga and I generally stay away from any pirate tha's not me own crew." She pursed her lips. It was funny hearing that out loud because she never actually thought much about it before. Really the only reason she became a pirate was to get the hell out of Tortuga. She never intended to do it her whole life but she ended up falling in love with the sea.

I pass it over to him, glancing down to the coins now in my hand. It's probably more than I usually make all afternoon. "Well." I consider it, putting the shillings away in my pocket, "I suppose it couldn't hurt. If it's just a drink you're after."

"Hmm," Jack replied after a moment, a thoughtful look on his face. "Definitely not the average pirate," he agreed, his fingers tapping lightly on the bar. "In fact, I don't know that I can even call you a pirate if you hate Tortuga." He gave another small shrug and leaned the tiniest bit closer. It was not a movement made as if he were trying to make a romantic gesture towards her - after all, they had already ascertained their mutual dislike of each other in that fashion. It was merely that he was curious. "To be honest, you seem quite the introvert. May I inquire as to why?"

A thoughtful look took over Astorias expression. She was never one to share feelings or her past with anyone, especially not someone she just met five minutes ago. "Lived here 'til I was fourteen." She took a sip of rum, attempting to block out bad memories. "It's a great place if yer a visitor lookin' for a good time. . Not so great when the visitors are havin' a good time with your whore of a mother." She said bluntly. The fact that her mother was a prostitute was no secret. Many people around here probably knew her mother. As a matter of fact, she wouldn't be surprised if Sparrow knew her mother.

Jack's knowing eyes softened at Astoria's answer. "You turned pirate to get away, didn't ya?" he asked softly, regretting having asked any questions in the first place. It had not been his intention to mock her in any way - he was simply inquisitive by nature - yet everything he said just seemed to upset her more. Stop while you're ahead, he warned himself. If he thought he knew her mother he didn't say. He instead gave a slight wave of his hand as he sat back in his chair. "My apologies for pryin', Captain. Let me buy you a drink for your troubles, eh?"
With that he gestured to the barkeep, and within minutes a tankard was set before Astoria.

His first response annoyed her a bit. It wasn't like she was some damsel in distress. Absolutely not. Although he was right in a way. She had never really thought of it that way before. But his next gesture overthrew her annoyance. 'If he keeps buyin' me drinks, we may actually get along.' She thought as she took a long swig of the rum. "Actually I worked a whole line of jobs before this. Sewing in a dress shop. . I waitresses for one night and got fired for my attitude. . Sellin' fruit." She chuckled thinking of the bread girl. "But finally I found meself on a ship and fell in love with the sea." What she failed to mention was the fact that she had actually tried out prostituting for a night and realized that she never wanted to be like her mother.

"That's what happens to most of us, I think," Jack replied with a slight smile, thinking of his own infatuation with the ocean. "We pirates all fall under the sea's spell and that's it. She holds her sway over us for life." He then chuckled, running a thumb along his lightly scruffed jawline. "It's the best job in the world though, isn't it? There's no better feeling, no better freedom, than captaining your own ship."
