"I'm ready, mother!" Alaura called as she raced down the stairs and came to a halt in front of her mother. "How do I look?" Alaura felt very grown up and beautiful in pretty dress.
"You look beautiful," Alaura's father said with a nod of approval. Taking Emily's hand, he asked, "Are you ready, my dear? We don't want to be late for the party now, do we?"

"No, of couse not", Emily answered.
They all entered the carriage and rode to the Fort.
"Alaura, remember to be on your best behavior. I don't want you to embarass us in front of Sgt. Norrington."

"Yes, mother," Alaura replied respectfully. From a little ways away, Alaura could see a small figure waving at her. It was Lizzy! Alaura waved back excitedly and turned anxiously to her mother, "May I go over there with Elizabeth? We have so many things to talk about!"

"Thank you," Alaura smiled excitedly at her mother. "Should I meet you back here at a certain time?"
Alaura always did everything possible to prevent her mother from getting mad. Alaura was the kind of child who tried to please everyone.

"Okay," Alaura told her mother before zipping off to find Elizabeth.
"Lizzy!" Alaura called as she ran up to her friend and gave her a big hug. "You look really pretty! Did you get a new dress for the party? Mother said I needed to dress up for the occasion. I already forgot what the occasion is, but at least we get to dress up! How are you?"

"I'm great! Father got me a new dress for tonight. We're supposed to be welcoming Sgt. Norrington to Port Royal. He's the one I was telling you about. James Norrington. I wonder where he is?"
Elizabeth took Alaura's hand as they went through the crowd looking him.

"I figured it was new! It's so beautiful!" Alaura smiled at her friend.
As she followed Elizabeth through the crowd, she remembered Elizabeth telling her about James Norrington. Lizzy hadn't told her too much about him, and she wanted to know more. As they walked along, Alaura asked, "Have you met James Norrington before?"

"My father introduced me to him the other day", Elizabeth said. "He's older than us. I think he's almost 20."
Elizabeth came to a stop when she bumped into someone.
"I beg your pardon."
"It's quite alright, miss Swann."
"Oh, it's you! Laura, this is James Norrington."
