"Why won't your father marry again?" Alaura asked in puzzlement. Living without a spouse seemed like a pretty lonely life to her. Deciding not to give up yet, Alaura said, "But your father wants you to be happy! If you and James aren't happy together, then surely he won't make you marry him! Who knows? He might be in love with someone else too!" Alaura blushed.

"My father doesn't like Will. He's never liked Will the way that I do. Everytime we talk about him, father always refer to him as "the boy".
Elizabeth sighed shaking her head.
"It would never work. He would never approve. No, I have to marry James in order to make my father happy."

Alaura frowned. This wasn't going at all how she wanted it to. She patted Lizzy's shoulder gently and suggested, "Well, why don't you talk to your father about postponing the wedding for just a little bit? I mean, you're rather young to get married, don't you think? My parents haven't even begun to talk about marriage with me yet."

"Lizzy!" Alaura called out with a grin. It was so good to see her friend again. She ran forwards and gave her a big hug. Sharing her friend's joy, she asked, "What? Tell me why you're happy! From your big smile, you have really great news!"

"I'm so happy for you!" Alaura burst out. She truly was happy...more for herself than for Elizabeth. "I knew that you always wanted to marry Will! This is going to work out perfectly! So...um...is someone else engaged to James then?"
Alaura blushed as she said her last statement. She didn't know if Lizzy knew that she liked James or not.

"But didn't you ask him?" Alaura looked at Lizzy, stunned. How could you not ask James Norrington when he would be back? She would never have let him go in the first place! Frowning, she asked, "So we just have to wait for him to come back then?"

"I'm afraid so", Elizabeth answered. "He gave Jack Sparrow a one-day headstart, so who knows when he'll come back?"
Days turned to weeks. Weeks turned to months. There was no word of James Norrington. One day a letter came to the governor. James had resigned as commodore.
