"That's alright," Roux said with a smirk, "I'm Sébastien, this is my wife Shannon and this is Anne." He introduced the three of them with their 'new names'. Only he had forgotten the last name. But he figured they could get away with that.

Vianne too hadn't thought much about their new names.. "nice to meet you, how long have you lived here?" "Oh, a very long time! I just noticed that the house wasn't empty anymore, it has been empty for a long time, I was surprised to see little Anne here in the garden" Vianne smiled "we came here two days ago, it's a nice house" she glanced over to Roux, wondering how soon they could get out of this conversation without hurting the neighbour's feelings.

Vianne's glance was obvious enough that Roux knew she'd rather cut the conversation off. So he helped along as much as he could. "Yeah, we still need to settle a lot though. There's some work to do still." He said, "So, we should get back to that."

"aah oui! I'm sorry i'm keeping you|" he chuckled
"that's okay" Vianne took Anouk's hand and lead her back towards the door
"See you around" he waved"
"Byee" Vianne went back inside, with Anouk, and Roux following her.
"I was afraid he was spying!"
"noo, it is just a neighbour.. honey, no one will find us here, okay?"

"You shouldn't worry yourself with that, petite. Your mom and I will keep an eye out for those things, alright?" Roux added.

"Okay.." she nodded and looked down, biting her bottom lip
Vianne glanced at the clock in the kitchen "well.. enough worrying and odd neighbours for today, it's bedtime"

"of course" Vianne smirked. She took Anouk upstairs, told her a story and watched her fall asleep, then she went back downstairs to the kitchen and grabbed the cookiejar in which they stored their money

Days passed like that. They got up early and had breakfast, Roux would usually walk Anouk to school and then continue his way downtown to go to work. When he got home in the evening they’d have dinner. Some nights he would help her fix the chocolaterie, doing the construction work. Other nights they just relaxed. Their life was busy, at least until Vianne could open her shop, but Roux didn’t mind it like that. It kept his mind of the fact that he couldn’t get used to living in a house…
He’d been working in the boat garage for about a week when trouble started to brew though. His colleagues and employer were out, to drag a boat down the river, so he was alone in the garage. A boat arrived which belonged to a gypsy family. Since the reparations wouldn’t take long, he offered them to wait there until he was done with their boat.
His employer returned early, and acted weird when he walked into the garage. He glanced once at the customers, the gypsies, and snorted before he walked to the back. Roux didn’t think much of it. He fixed the boat and charged the people and wished them a bonne voyage. But when he was ready to go home that day, his employer approached him.
“Roux, we need to have a word.”
Roux put on his coat and looked at the guy, “Something wrong?” He asked.
“Yeah.” His employer pointed at the place where the gypsies had sat that afternoon. “We don’t serve people like them.”
Roux raised an eyebrow. “Like them?”
“Gypsies. Rats. Scum of society.” His employer said impatiently. “Kapish?”
What could he say? What Roux wanted to do was inform the guy he’d hired one of ‘those people’. That he was a smallminded, selfish idiot, who had to get off his high horse and put both his feet back on the ground. But if he did, he’d lose his job. And with the chocolaterie not open yet, and the costs of living and Anouk’s school.. he couldn’t risk that. For once, Roux didn't open his mouth in defence of his people, the riverrats. He swallowed his pride.
“Kapish.” He mumbled, under his breath.
He felt like a traitor, and the feeling didn't leave for the rest of the day. When they were having dinner that evening, he was completely quiet. He didn't even listen to Anouk's babbling about school. He just had his eyes set on his plate, a slight anger bubbling inside him.

That night during dinner, Vianne was more quiet then usual as well. She had been out all day, passing free chocolates to the neighbourhood people. It had been a great succes all day, but near the end of it something changed. She ran into Sophie. It had been quite an awkward situation, since Sophie was actually looking for Roux. Vianne tried to be nice, but something in the back of her head told her not to trust Sophie completely. When the girl continued asking about Roux, how he was doing, where he had been hanging out, if he was at home, whether he had talked about her at all, she started to get on Vianne's nerves. It dawned on her that perhaps Sophie wasn't very aware of the living situation of Roux and Vianne.. Not wanting to be too unfriendly, Vianne had told Sophie that she would tell Roux about her visit and that she would pass on the information that Sophie wanted to see him again. Now, at the dinner table, Vianne was contemplating whether she would tell Roux or pretend to have forgotten..
Eventually Vianne looked up when Anouk kept calling her "..sorry, what, honey?" she glanced at Roux long enough to see that he was lost in his thoughts as well as she was before. What could be on his mind? Did Sophie run into him as well ?
"if my nw friend can come over and play tomorrow after school
"Oh.. sure honey.." she mumbled, her mind not really away from her trail of thoughts about Sophie
