Roux stepped onto the treshold, but then turned back to face Vianne who was now practically toe-to-toe with him. "You too, Vianne." He murmered. His eyes travelled through the shop, as he noticed (not for the first time), how plain it looked. No bright colors. No sashets by the door. Nothing... magical. "..You too. You do seem different." He looked back to her. Then, he stepped closer and put a hand behind her neck, keeping her close enough to give her the lightest kiss on her forehead. "Take care of yourself." He told her, before he stepped back and quickly left before she could say anything. He disappeared easily in the darkness of the streets.

Vianne watched him disappear into the dark night and then closed and locked the door. It was not until then that she had an outburst, she leaned against the door, her head against the window and she cried, like she had not cried in a long time. He had no idea how different she felt inside. How much he made her realise that not obeying the northwind and not doing what her ancestors did she had changed for the worst while she thought she was doing it all for better times. He looked right through her even though she kept up the masque, he noticed the difference while she tried so hard to not even notice it herself.. How come things always had to be difficult for her? If it wasn't an insane comte then it would be the haunting of an old lady's death, if it wasn't that then it would be the return of an untouchable loved one. It took a while before Vianne was able to scrape herself off the floor, as she had sat herself down, her knees giving up. She dragged herself back to bed and cried some more before she sang herself to sleep with an old child's song her mother used to sing her. Sometimes the wish to be strong and determined was very weak. Now, more than ever, did she want to use magic... ~Timeskip to the next day or till whenever it is appropriate ~

The next day, indeed.
Anouk was up early. She was loud and talkative again, singing to herself as she bounced down the stairs to grab some breakfast before school. Last night she had determined that Roux was just surprised to see them, and that things would soon be good again. It had to be. So she kept up her mood with that determination. Maybe - she thought - maybe Maman would change too now. For the better. Maybe their lifes would get a touch of magic back in them.
Meanwhile, Roux was heading into the village again from the river. He usually did any errands or whatever needed to be done. The rest didn't dare, didn't speak the language, or had other reasons. He didn't mind. He'd function as their ambassador, and managed to care little for the stares the villagers gave him. Though, this time he wouldn't have been there if he didn't have to. Over the night, Blache's baby (who lived on the second biggest boat of the group) got ill. The baby got ill a lot, being a weak little thing. Roux had told her he'd get some proper cough medicine for the little thing, before things could develop for the worse.

Vianne was working already, preparing the shop before it would open. She looked up when her daughter came into the kitchen "Goodmorning honey, how did you sleep?" She brushed a quick kiss against the side of Anouk's head and then continued making little bonbons again. She tried not to think about her own night, which had continued horribly, she cried herself to sleep and kept waking up from nightmares. She looked like a completely mess and when she saw herself in the mirror that morning she knew she needed some afternoon sleep today..

"Alright." Anouk nicked a pain au chocolat and took a big bite. "Do I have to go to school today, maman?" She asked full mouthedly. "We could go to the river instead."

"of course you have to go to school, there will be no argueing about that" She made herself clear and once she was finished with the bonbons she put her equipment down and looked at her daughter "Listen.. Anouk, I do not want you near the river again okay? The riverpeople are not happy with you snooping around, they like to be alone" she couldn't just tell her that Roux requested not to see them again.

Anouk looked at her mother with a certain cleverness though. "They're scared of something, Maman. They don't have to be."

"I know they are scared of something" She said with a sigh "But .. " She observed her daughter, was she old enough to deal with the truth? "Roux said it would be better if we did not come down to the river. We can not force ourselves upon them if they don't want any contact, dear" Vianne stirred some melted chocolate "Leave them be, you just go to school..for real this time"

"But.." Anouk frowned, "Roux wants to see us.. doesn't he? Maman?"

"..no sweety.. he doesn't. He'll be busy while he's here and he said so himself.. it would be best if we don't visit him" Vianne took a deep breath "Please Anouk, don't make this any more difficult. We shall not break other people's privacy, if this is the way it should be then we'll just have to adapt to that way"
