"Right," Mal agreed. "And not telling him anything will make him all the more suspicious I imagine." He mumbled to himself, thinking out loud. "He seems trustworthy enough, but I still wouldn't go around involving him in our business." He sighed. "This is why I don't like passengers on my boat, too much trouble," He said, even though Inara was never any trouble. She'd got them out of more trouble than she'd caused ... except that sword fight over her, but then that was more his own fault than hers.
Kaylee smiled and took Hunter's arm. "Just down here is the infirmary..." She smiled, leading him out of the dining area towards Simon's domain. Hunter couldn't help but notice the look on Simon's face as they left the room. He suppressed a smirk. Taking down this ship was going to be easier than he'd ever imagined if everyone on this ship was as fragile as the doctor was.

Zoe nodded, over thinking Mal's words. They probably should have thought about this before taking the job, or allowing the newcomer on the ship. But the excitement of crossing the Alliance must have won it from reason once again. Maybe they should check with Wash, and see if they are indeed on schedule, before worrying about it just yet, she wondered.
Simon watched the two leave the room and pondered whether he should follow them or not. He looked at the passage Mal and Zoe went through and could see them converse silently. For a moment he considered walking up tot hem to share his opinion on the newest addition to their crew, but decided against it when he heard Kaylee mention the infirmary, and followed them down the corridor instead.

"We'll keep a close eye on him for now. Cross that bridge when we come to it," Mal thought out loud, thinking the same thing Zoe was, talk to Wash, see if there was any opportunity en-route to ditch the newcomer for a couple of hours while they did the job.
Kaylee gave Simon a smile when he joined them. She took Hunter around the ship, showing him the Infirmary, the crew quarters, took him up to see Wash in the cockpit. They ended the tour on the bridge over the cargo bay. "And that down there is the cargo bay, but the Cap says you're not to go snooping down there."
"I'll keep that in mind," Hunter said with a smile. "Thanks for the tour," He said, forcing his eyes off Kaylee to look at Simon as well. "Both of you,"

Simon smiled briefly and gave Hunter a little nod. Considering that they will probably be sharing Serenity for quite a while, he figured he should at least try to give Hunter the benefit of the doubt. After all, so far he had seemed like a polite guy and not really done anything to raise suspicion.
Perhaps, instead of being intimidated by this well-mannered man, he should be glad that there was now another person on this ship who had not yet forgotten what it is like to be part of a civilised society. Instead of living as outcasts and being mostly on the run.
For a moment the three of them stood there in silence, not quite sure where to go from here. Simon thought of any questions he could ask to keep the conversation going.
Before he could formulate anything decent, the voice of Wash sounded over the intercom to inform them of their take-off. The next moment a loud noise filled the cargo-bay and the trio was exempted from the (obligatory) small-talk for a couple of minutes, as the Serenity slowly came into motion.
Zoe smiled when she felt the Firefly starting to lift up underneath her feet. Then she looked back at Mal, and nodded in understanding. They would just have to wait it out for now. Come up with a rough strategy, and see what would be the best plan of action once they drew closer to their target.
"Well Sir," she smiled "in that case. If it's all right with you I'm gonna check if Shepherd Book needs any help setting the table." She looked at Mal with a playful twinkle in her eyes and added. "I promissed my man some food, so I better get to it".

"Well," Hunter said, moving his gaze from Kaylee to Simon and back again. "If you don't mind, I'd like to get settled in my shuttle." He took Kaylee's hand and brought her fingers to his lips, brushing a kiss on her knuckles. "Miss Frye. Doctor," He said, nodding at Simon. "Thank you both again," He told them before he spun around on his heels and walked along the bridge, heading back to his shuttle.
Mal gave Zoe a slight smirk, "Good idea. Keep our trusty pilot happy before he crashes us into something," He joked, walking with Zoe as far as the steps from the Cargo Bay up onto the metal bridge where Kaylee and Simon were standing. He saw the newcomer disappear out of sight and leaned back against the railing, arms folded across his chest. "So, children, what do we think of the new boy?" He asked his doctor and mechanic.

"Hmmm" Simon replied pensively, his eyes still focussed in direction Hunter disappeared in. He then tore his gaze away and with a small -though not completely genuine- smile he faced Mal.
He and the captain still weren't quite 'best friends' just yet, and with River experiencing another 'episodic moment' this morning, it didn't seem wise to him to openly question Mal's decision to take the newcomer on board.
He glanced at the girl next to him. "Kaylee seems to take a fancy to him".

"Is that so?" Mal looked to Kaylee with a slight smirk of amusement, knowing exactly how quickly she'd taken a fancy to Simon too when he'd come aboard.
Kaylee bit back a slight grin, biting her lower lip and gave a casual shrug, embarrassed by Simon's words purely because it was Simon who said it. "Oh I don't know, Captain," She said, keeping her eyes on the Captain and refusing to meet Simon's gaze. "He seems pretty charming to me. I don't see any reason not to trust him is all, you trusted Simon when he joined, didn't you?"
"Yes I did, and look what happened there," Mal said dryly, hand resting on his hip, looking sternly at Simon.
Meanwhile, Hunter headed to his shuttle. He shut the door behind him and dropped back into the swivel chair. He kicked his feet up on the control panel. He reached into his bag and pulled out a small electronic pad and opened the Tam's files. He studied them, mulling over his next move. As Hunter tapped his fingers impatiently on the pad, his gaze caught on something. Something was wedged behind one of the panels, left behind by the previous occupant. He pulled it out. It was a small hologram-video photograph. He looked at it. There was the mechanic and the Tam girl running around the living quarters. The camera followed them as the Tam girl chased the mechanic, then stopped as it passed the Captain, sitting on the sofa next to the first mate. It hovered there for an awkwardly long length of time while he laughed at something Zoe said. The camera jerked back to the girls when the mechanic shrieked, hiding behind the Tam boy, using him as a shield.
"Inara," The gun-toting crewmember who's named Hunter had forgotten, called the person with the camera. "Vera wants you to film--" The video cut off. Hunter tucked the photo into the case of his pad and smirked to himself, coming up with an idea of how to pull this crew to pieces.
