"And how exactly does she pay for my sins, eh?" I ask her, referring to Cora of course.

"Are you an idiot?" I scowl, even though I already know the answer to that, "She's the prime bait for anyone thats after you now. And there are many." I clarify, "Anyone who attacks this ship and finds a kid will take it, whether they know it's yours or not. It might be different if she were a boy, but having a small girl onboard for no reason apparent to them will have kidnappers and rapists jumping with joy. I hope you have enough on board to get her back when she's held for ransom."

"Your logic is beautifully dark as always, luv. But I don't intend to let anyone take 'r. It's been a good while since anyone with the wrong intentions managed to set as much as a foot on the Pearl without paying with it for his life. So, from where I'm standing, I'm granting tha' girl the life she's been askin' for. With risks, certainly, but no risks that can't be countered." I elaborate. For once in my life I give her a serious reply, instead of dismissing her words with a sarcastic remark or witty joke - but I don't bother to wonder why this subject seems worth that trouble.

"It seems to me that your years have been a lot more dull than I had first expected, then." I frown, not believing him at all, "You're a pirate Jack, you're a criminal. You can't predict the ocean or anything on it. You rely so heavily on this ship, too heavily, to the point that human morality escapes you. That has always been the problem and I suggest that you consider enlightening yourself now that there are some onboard that are not as disposable as others."

"It's their choice," I tell her, with a slight shrug as I return my gaze to the ocean, "Rae's well aware of the risks, same as you and me. But she made 'r choice, and I trust 'r to pick what's best for tha' li'll lass, eh? She'd know better than you and me, I reckon."

"She's a child." I remind him again, "You seem to have very similar standards to those with and without experience of the world."
I stand there a while longer, silently judging him, "Your view of the world is messed up."

"That, I won't argue. But it's the only view I've got, and all I have to work with." I inform her simply.

I step towards him again, finishing my rum off as I do, "Being without me has filled your head with too much fairytale." I decide, "You need a little more hell in your life."

I laugh at that statement, "And that will grant me a less messed up view, issit? Either way, darling, I'm absolutely sure you'll handle that portion of hell in my life quite perfectly."

I don't return the same reaction, not thinking it's funny at all, "It's better to be wary and hateful than a man with rainbows coming out of his ears." I poke the side of his head.
