I want him to to feel as uncomfortable as I do right now. Sitting between the two of them has caught me in a momentary silence as I sip my rum in annoyance. All I had planned to say to him has been caught in a giant net thrown over by Rae and this bloody brat of a girl. I glance at the child and then back to Rae as she orders a drink, and in a second my glance is back to Jack again. I frown.

"I believe it's time to go back to the sea," I say, studying his reactions intently and completely ignoring Cassandra's black and churning presence. "It's been difficult, though, finding a captain well...frankly, crazy enough to take a woman and child on board. They think women are bad luck aboard a ship, or they look at Cora and don't believe she can handle herself. Which, living with her, with her for ten years, is something I can heavily protest to." Cora, at this point, was stabbing a roach trying to make its journey across the table with a fork.

"I'm sure she does," I comment, my gaze once again drawn to the tiny girl who now occupied herself by decapitated a roach with expert precision. "What I'm wondering though, is the why." I emphasize the last word, eyebrows raised slightly, leaning towards Rae as I study her face. "You look like you're doing well enough on land, luv. And she's young - too young, for the sea." I claim. Of course, I fully ignore the fact that I myself had been hopelessly lost to the ocean already when I was Cora's age. It obviously doesn't suit my argument.

"You're demented." I tell Rae, "She'd be ripped to shreds out there. Or burnt alive. Or kidnapped." I begin to list the inevitable.

"Let me ask you something," I say calmly. "Would I, who ten years ago left the sea to ensure the life of a child, decide to come back if I wasn't absolutely positive that she could defend herself? And waste everything I've done and had?"

"I think you're just bored to bloody tears on land and in your growing madness have convinved yerself it's fer the best." I frown, "Too much time on land for anyone thats spent time at sea is a hard task. Though I'll say this - you'd be better off marrying a merchant and sailing with the likes of those troubled lot than attempting to live aboard the ship of a pirate with a child. The merchant may be detroyed and pillaged by Pirates eventually, but at least it's a faster death than a slow torture amongst the worst of men upon the Pearl. Out of any of the pathetic paddle boats you see in the dock this evening, I'd say the Pearl was the least appropriate for the kid." I say, ignoring the fact its a vague and brief compliment.
"You do realise there is such thing as stowing away. And if you were to stow away aboard a... rather more decent ship you'd probably have a better time. Hunting treasure and brawling with men is no place for either of you - you were no help at all even before ye got yerself pregnant. It's two extra mouths to feed, two extra shares of the bounty and fer no effort in return. Sleeping with the captain isn't a position."

I finally turn towards Cassandra. "If it wasn't already made clear, I'm not asking for your dark and hopeless opinion. Neither does your endless drivel amuse me anymore than it did the last time I saw you. The Pearl is not your ship. Cora is not your daughter. And I am not you, thank God. I know it sickens you to see people who've made the best of their situations, but honestly! You might want to try a little variety. Your bleak outlook is, frankly, boring." Cora's stopped torturing the roach and is watching our exchange intently.

"If you had listened to what I had to say you'd realise somethin' better." I glare, slamming my bottle down on the table, "Hear what you want, you silly whore. I'm only trying to keep that child from being slaughtered. 'Tis a ridiculous idea, but if you want to put my common sense down to me being a little depressing to listen to, so be it."

"You were wrong before, Cassandra," I say low and dangerously. "And you're going to be wrong again."

I let out a deep breath in annoyance, "Wrong about what exactly?" I glare at her.
