Rose arched her back on the couch, eyes out on the window, looking out from the top floor of the apartment building. It wasn’t much of a place, a large loft, but it was the center of downtown. Embry had made a point not to use their parents money, or at least not much of it, and Rose hadn’t argued with them. She was just grateful to be out of the watchful eye of their foster parents.
She was alone in the apartment now, not sure where Embry had gone and it was nearing evening. She didn’t call him though, since he had a life and she didn’t ever want to make him feel like she was intruding. Various papers were scattered around her now, some of it homework she was supposed to be doing, others applications for colleges, and even some letters that mentioned a possible modeling shoot. Those were all in one pile—the trash pile. Rose had no intention of doing that again, not since her parents’ death.
Rose was taking a break now, too tired to do homework—it was all too easy anyway. She reached for the hidden pack of cigarettes under the couch.

"Take care now" Benji shook Embrys hand
"Yeah you too" Embry turned around and started walking back home
"You want a ride?" Benji called after him
"No I'm fine!" he called back without looking back at him and lit a cigarette before checking his cellphone, texting his sister:
I'll be home soon

When?
Rose sent back immediately after checking the text on her phone. She needed to know how long she had time to smoke at least, not wanting to get chewed out by her brother for the deed that he was likely doing himself.

10 minutes
He snuck through alleys, under fences and other places where he knew paparazzis wouldn't catch him. At least they hadn't yet...he used another route of walking outside alone just 6 months ago, but somehow the paparazzis found out and one evening when he was walking there alone, he got attacked by the flashing cameras and million questions. After that incident, his fostermom Jane had called him, being worried to bits after seeing his picture in the papers the next day. Embry's challenge in life was to trick the paparazzis. It had become like his personal little game.

Rose didn't answer, just knowing she had to put out the cigarette in five and then make sure all the smoke was gone from the area. She finally dashed it out on the window sill, blowing off the ash and flicking the butt over the edge. She waved a hand to try and clear the air, picking up some of her papers and a pen like she had been working on them. She rolled over on her stomach on the couch and set to looking busy.

He felt a bit triumphant over himself as he had managed to get back home without being attacked by journalists. He pulled out a long silver-chain from his pocket, searching for the right key to the door before he opened it and took the elevator up to their floor.
"Hey!" He called out when he unlocked the door to their apartment and walked into the hallway. All the lights were on, as it usually was when Rose was home alone. He started turning them off one by one as he found her in the livingroom on the couch.

Rose shrugged a bit, answering in a bored tone, "Hey..." She looked over at him, quickly taking in the appearance of her older brother. He reminded her of her dad and sometimes she hated that, but Rose was too sweet to actually tell anyone how much it bothered her. "Where were you?"
"At Benji's place" He looked at her laying there with papers scattered around. "So what are you doing?" He walked over to take a look at the papers and saw the one from a Modelling Agency
Rose pretended like she didn't notice the ones that he saw first, shaking her head a little bit. "Just homework... it's not hard. Why were you at Benji's?" She asked lowly, "What's the point?"
He picked up the one from the Modelling Agency and read it as he replied to her;"What's the point in what? ....are you gonna take this job?" he looked at her and waved the paper a bit in the air
"In going to see Benji." Rose shrugged, sitting up from where she was laying on her stomach on the couch. She crossed one leg over the other, glancing briefly at the papers he was waving, shaking her head. "No, I told you, I'm done with that stuff. They just keep sending it... it's annoying. I wish they would stop."
"Why would it be pointless in meeting Benji? You know he's helping me out with my music!" He made a paperball out of the letter from the modelling agency and tossed it in the bin.
Rose watched him toss away the modelling papers with a bit of a pained look on her face, but she quickly looked back at her homework. "I don't know... he's washed up now." She shrugged again, "You should just find someone else, not Benji to help. He can't do much anymore."
"You haven't even heard the tunes he's made, they're great! Don't be so negative, just because dad..---" he stopped midsentence and just sighed and walked to the kitchen to grab something to eat
Rose tensed up at the last word, grateful that Embry had stopped there and just left. She went about on her homework for a while, but it easily bored her. "Oh Embry," She finally called toward the kitchen, "you got some kind of mail about an interview. It's on the counter."
Embry, who always had trouble to just sit still for a moment, walked over to the counter as he chewed a sandwich and opened the letter. He almost choked on the sandwich as he saw it was from the Nylon Magazine. "Sweet!" he burst out and looked for the telephone number, but then realized their office were closed for the night
Rose heard the excitement in his voice over whatever it was and she had to stand up from the couch and wander into the kitchen. "Who is it?" She asked meekly, "What do they want?"
"Nylon Magazine wants me to do an interview for their september number" His dad once had his most famous photoshoots and interviews in Nylon Magazine some years ago and Embry had saved it in his drawer, where he kept most of the interviews from Passionate Violence. He didn't put them up on the walls or anything though, knowing it would only upset his sister
Rose frowned some, leaning her back against the kitchen wall, "Well, what do they want to interview you about? Is it about music or..." She figured it wouldn't just be about music. They'd dig into their lives and their parents lives like everybody else did.
Embry quoted that part of the letter for her;"We would like to interview you about your future in the musicbusiness and have a photoshoot with you that will be the magazines middlepages and one poster for Nylon Magazine's autumn number" He smiled and looked at her; "That's great!"
Rose smiled a little bit, mostly in relief, "Well, that's good. You're getting recognition, and by Nylon." She nodded her congrats to her brother, pushing off the wall and going to get a soda from the fridge. "When is it?"
"In three weeks" he read the letter again and then pinned it on the wall so he wouldn't forget it, which wasn't likely though.. "Oh, right, almost forgot.." he walked over to his jacket in the hallway and pulled out a bag of candy and walked over to Rose; "Here. Well, since you won't be taking any modelling jobs, some candy wouldn't hurt, right?" he smirked
Rose smiled widely at the candy and she reached for it, "What's the occassion?" She opened the bag and popped a piece in her mouth. Her brother was good to her, she knew that much and he was always respectful of how little she liked to speak about their parents. She couldn't ask for a better brother sometimes.
"Alright, so it's a bribe...I'll be having some friends over tomorrow and I don't want you to be a bitch towards them" he smirked
Rose frowned a little bit, "I wouldn't be a bitch to them, Embry..." She paused, "What friends?" She didn't like all his friends. Some of them were rough and all they ever wanted to do was get in trouble.
"I know you won't...but Evan is gonna come and I know you don't really like him" No kidding. Last time she had 'accidently' dropped a glass on his foot and the glass shards pierced his big toe so bad he had to get stitches.
Rose pursed her lips, "Well, maybe I will go out." She volunteered, "Somebody, this guy, he asked me to go to the movies sometime, so I can do that tomorrow. Then I won't even really be here the whole time you and your friends are."
"Hey, what guy? Do I know him? Why haven't you told me about this?" his curiosity and big brother-protective radar alert was on now when she mentioned the movie with a guy
Rose raised a brow, "Because it just came up like three days ago. He goes to school with me. It's not a big deal." She popped open her soda and took a drink. "He's kinda like... nerdy and normal." She shrugged, although that wasn't the whole truth, but sometimes she needed a life outside that not everyone should know about.
"Nerdy...so you're going out with him just to be nice! Instead of saying No right away and break his heart, you'll just say it after the movie like; 'Arnold, it would never have worked between us, darling...I'm sorry!" He grinned, liking to joke with his sister. He did everything to tease her but also to make her smile, since he knew she had a harder time living than he had...
Rose smirked a bit, shaking her head, "No, I think he's a nice guy... he's normal. And he's cute in that dorky way, you know? We're jsut gonna see a movie, that's all. Not get married." She nodded to Embry, "You haven't been on a date in ages."
He smirked. "You seriously think anyone would like to keep up with me? I don't think so"
Rose shook her head, "You think worse of yourself than you are, Embry. I'm sure you're funny and charming with girls." She winked and then set her soda down on the counter. "What time are your friends coming over tomorrow?"
She was right. He inherited his dads dark thoughts, only it was mostly directed at himself... "umm...around 8-ish..."
Rose nodded, "So what are you going to do for the rest of the day?" She prodded. She was always interested in Embry's life. It was so much more exciting than hers.
"I don't know, most of the day is gone anyway...maybe I'll go to the park or something" Besides playing music, he was pretty good at skate-boarding and doing tricks with his bike, but he always had to have bodyguards looking out for him while he was there and he never really seemed to get used to that...
"Can I go with you?" Rose asked, rare of her to want to go out, but she was tired of homework and worrying about applying for colleges. She would much prefer to go to the park, even at the threat of paprazzi.
He shrugged. "Alright...But on one condition!" he looked at her;"You'll skate aswell!" he grinned and walked into his room to find his skateboard
Rose smirked, "I'll sit on the skateboard if you push me." She joked. She was not inclined to be athletic. She had never had to do anything of that sort before and she preferred not to. "Can't I just watch you? I'll clap when you do a trick or something." She joked.
He did a quick check in his fullbody-mirror, sprayed some AXE on himself and got out in the hallway with his skateboard. "You can be a Babe-watcher. You know, check out where most of the hot babes are and I can do some tricks for them" he grinned and got his skating shoes on

Rose laughed, "You want me as a babe watcher? That doesn't really make sense, I don't swing that way, sorry Em." She shook her head, grabbing her bag since they seemed to be going. "You driving?"

"Yeah just hold on.." he sighed and picked up his cellphone. He had to call their bodyguards if they were going to the park. He didn't like it, but he had to. He got his car-keys up as the security picked up the phone. "Hey it's Embry Bradley...yeah..no we're alright, but we're going to the park...skateboarding and stuff, thought you might wanna know....yeah that's cool...okey thanks"

Rose was used to this sort of call, knowing that the damn body guards followed her to school every day-- it just was something they had learned to live with by now. She checked her cell phone, smirking at the text message she had there. Responding in an excited manner.
