Gilbert leant across to her and kissed her on the cheek without thinking. "Sorry ..." He muttered, his cheeks flushing pink. "You are amazing," He smiled.

"Don't give the people anything to gossip abouuut" she joked when he kissed her on the cheek. She stopped in her tracks and let go of his hand, but only to wrap her arms around his neck, she hugged him tightly "Thanks, but I don't deserve those words" she smiled, happy he was her..friend.

"You do deserve them," Gilbert smiled, wrapping his arms around her waist in return. "Otherwise I wouldnt say them. I dont care if the town gossips. By next week they'll have moved onto something much more interesting," He smirked, wanting to kiss her more but scared of ruining what they had.

"Yeah like, a bug in the towns best ice cream or whatever" She chuckled, knowing how the town worked around the gossip. It was always about nothing and it always stayed nothing. Nikki pulled back from the hug but didn't let go of Gilbert yet "I should start heading home, my mother is making me pick out college to go see tomorrow, early" she smirked.

"Ok," Gilbert said, reluctantly letting go of her. "Dont forget, tomorrow, my lovely picnic for you," He grinned. "I'll pick you up around 7, ok? Will you be back by then?"

Gilbert walked back to his house, unable to wipe the smile off his face. She really was one of a kind, but again that left him wondering what would happen to him when she left? He'd go insane with only Arnie and the rest of his dysfunctional family to keep him company.
Gilbert reached his house and went straight up to his room, Momma was asleep on the couch as he'd suspected. He went up his bedroom, stripped off and climbed into his bed.
