"We'd know for sure if we could make the money exchange." Judy explained. Although Roxy was only young, she didn't want to lie to the girl. Judy saw the concern on Roxy's face, and she felt bad for the girl. Her whole teenage life was turned upside down, just like that, Judy couldn't help but pity her.
"Then make it," Tom suggested. He had taken a seat on top of Judy's counter, and had stolen an apple from the fridge which he was chewing now.
"We can't." Judy said. Her gaze turned to Roxy again, "What Tom means is that we send an undercover police officer to make the exchange, so we can arrest whoever shows up. That's what we usually do."
"So why not this time?" Tom pried for more information - information he had absolutely no business knowing about.
"Because," Judy said, breathing in deeply, "Because the kidnappers demand that one of Mister Brandburg's dealers makes the exchange. They've been watching him, so they'd know if an unfamiliar face showed up. We considered asking Jacob to do it, but it's legally impossible to make a suspect work for the police force, if it involves any danger at all."

"Ohw... but.." Roxy thought of something, not sure if it was going to work she hesitated saying it "What if.. what if that person volunteers to do it ? I mean.. what about me ?" she pointed at herself "I will do anything to help, danger or no danger, I don't care. We can't have my father being their captive much longer before they will get rid of them. These people.. I bet they've already figured out a way how to get rid of him without ever being responsible, without evidence to trace.. They are top criminals"
Roxy remembered lots of phonecalls in the months before her father's disappearance. He was scared, she overheard. These businesspartners of his were more dangerous then any of the ones he had worked with so far, she knew.

"I thought about that," Judy admitted, "But technically you're one of our prime suspects." She exchanged a glance with Tom.
"Means they don't trust you." Tom clarified Judy's words, not turning around the subject. "You might as well still be working with them, and against the police. Least that's what Fuller thinks."
"Technically.. yes, that's what it means." Judy said, moving her gaze from Tom back to Roxy.
"What 'bout me?" Tom spoke up.
"What about you?" Judy frowned.
"If they were watching Roxy's dad, they know 'bout me. They know I'm Roxy's boyfriend. They know I hung out at their place." He shrugged, "It's not a big stretch to make 'em believe I dealt drugs for the guy, too. I mean, he liked keeping business in the family." Tom's eyes met Roxy's, not meaning to sound crude, just.. stating the facts.

Roxy understood all too well. "That's true..he did. I don't know how reliable that is, If we get a hold of my father and we can tell him to play along it shouldn't be a problem to do this but .." Roxy shook her head "Tom, you're under investigation, are you even allowed to do this ? And I think I make a better chance, they can wire me or trace me or bug me, I don't know what you people do, I am completely honest, I swear" She didn't want Tom to solve her problems nor did she want him to risk anything. He had been hurt enough, if she could do anything to relief this she would do it.

"Okay, you're both not doing it." Judy reminded them, "You're a suspect, you're under investigation!" Her gaze moved from Roxy to Tom, "There's no way you'll be allowed to do this. Either of you."
"Ask Fuller tomorrow." Tom said, chucking the core of the apple he was eating into Judy's trashcan.
"Tom, I don't--"
"I will say 'please' if I have to." Tom told her.
"It's not that--"
"Please? Judy, pretty please. Cherry on top." Tom dropped himself off the counter and walked over to her, attempting the puppy-dog eyes look that turned out convincing in the past.
Judy groaned, frustrated. "I'm not even listening anymore." She said, walking out of the kitchen, leaving Judy and Tom alone.

Roxy watched Judy go and then slowly walked over to Tom "I really want to do this. For my dad, and for you.. Do you think she'll ask your captain tomrrow ?" She had a little bit of hope in her eyes, thinking this was the way to earn everyone's trust back..

"Yeah.. I think she will." If anything could be said 'bout Judy, it was that she was an ambitious police officer. She wanted this case solved as badly as he did. So she'd probably take her chance, and see if their suggestions were an option.

"Oh thank god" Roxy whispered and wrapped her arms around Tom waiste, pressing her head against his chest "Now let's hope your inspector will agree for me to do this, how big is that chance do you think??"

"I don't know. I really don't, Roxy." Tom admitted, putting his arms around her.

"Okay..okay, i'll wait till tomorrow then and see what happens next.." she closed her eyes for a second and sighed "Do you have to leave now?" she asked him, not wanting to leave his safe arms just yet. The last couple of days she had been looking for a place to feel secure but it felt as if the ground was moving under her. She wasn't safe anywhere, her house had been taken over by cops for investigation, she had messed up with Tom too big to go to his house and even though Judy was friendly and tried her best to make the situation work, Roxy still cried herself asleep in the unfamiliar bedroom.
