Elkwood High.
Officer Tom Hanson had just parked his car on the lot next to the school, and was walking to the entrance of the building when the sign caught his attention. Elkwood High would actually have been its original lay-out. But the Elkwood-part was scratched away with a black marker, so all that was left was High. Someone had scribbled a drawing of a guy with a oversized joint in his mouth underneath it. A janitor was busy trying to erase the drawing as Tom walked past.
In any other circumstances, a piece of art like that could’ve made him smirk. But after the speech of Fuller yesterday Tom didn’t feel like laughing too much. Fuller had told him this school had a problem with drugs. Like every other respectable high school in America, Tom figured. But this time it was a little more serious. Drugs were dealt with in school, sold to the teenagers. And just recently, a 15 year old kid had died due to it.
Bad drugs, the newspaper said. Bad quality, so the boy had reacted badly to it and his heart had stopped beating almost instantly. Selling drugs in school was bad enough, but handling in poisonous drugs that could kill even a kid who’d only try it once was serious enough for Jump Street to get the case.
Fuller was glad. He was confident that they could solve this case. And Tom took over that optimism, and got out of bed this morning actually content that he had a real case to work on. The previous two weeks he’d spend on the dreaded dark side of being a cop, called paperwork.
Tom pushed the door open and walked into the crowded hallway of the school. There were lockers on either side, where kids were standing, chatting and bullshitting around. He got some stares, but he was confident that he fitted in easily. They all would fall for his cover as the clever-but-sometimes-careless Tom Henderson. With his worn down brown leather jacket, the white shirt, jeans and baseball cap, he could pass for one of them. A 18 year old senior who transferred from Bayside High. You wouldn’t think you’d get any suspicion.
The stares weren’t because they suspected him though (they never were). He was just the newbie. Fresh meat, that needed to be observed carefully.
He thought that would change, over time.

At 8.30 Roxy entered the school building. She was late, as usual. Her car had broken down half way to school and she had to hitchhike from there. Before she headed to her first class, biology, she went over to her locker to get her books out. She opened the door and stared into the mirror that hung inside. "Oh boy, better do some touching up" she mumbled to her reflection and grabbed the eyeliner and lipstick from her locker, starting to apply it. Then she grabbed her books, slammed the door of the locker shut and speeded up towards class 21B. In the glass window of the door she could see that mr. Jeremy had already started lecturing everybody. She gently opened the door and stepped inside "I'm sorry I'm late mr. Jeremy. My car broke down and I had to walk" She lied a little. "How good of you to join us miss Brandburg, take a seat. You haven't missed much"

Like every first school day, Tom was expected to go to the principal first to get a student card and whatmore. By the time he was done filling in forms under his false name, it was near to nine o' clock. Of course, nobody knew who he really was, so he had to go all this bureaucraty to enroll officially. Principals or teachers weren't notified, because they might as well be suspects as students. You never knew what you were gonna find.
When he was done, he was given his scedual and checked with the principal whether he should still go to his first class or not. It started 30 minutes ago, after all. The principal gave him a note to give to the teacher, which excused him, and he left to classroom 21B to join the class.
When Tom walked in, the teacher stopped talking and glanced over. "Can I help you?" "Yeah, if you're going to teach me the wonderful workings of DNA, I think so." Tom handed over the note. The teacher took a few seconds to read it. During that times, the rest of the students were staring over at Tom curiously. He didn't mind though, at least they'd be notified about his existance which might make things easier on the way. Mr Jeremy gestured to the class when he finished the note. "Welcome, Thomas. Take a seat." Tom nodded and walked over to one of the empty chairs, taking place there.

Roxy turned backwards to her neighbours, while mr. Jeremy was reading the note. "Cute!" she whispered to the girls and quickly turned around again as she heard the teachers voice again. Since there was a vacant seat beside her she was glad to see that the new guy sat down next to her. "Hi" she whispered as she twirled her hair around her finger and gave him one of her broad smiles.

Tom glanced aside to his newfound neighbour, and gave her a small smile. "Hey," He kept his voice low so the teacher wouldn't notice them talking. The girl seemed like a normal type of girl, nothing too special about her at first sight. But she stood out nonetheless. She was without doubt the prettiest girl in class, so that might be it. "I'm Tom." He introduced himself, to get acquainted further. He wasn't here to learn more about Biology after all. His target was getting to know people.

"I'm Roxy" she whispered as a reply and leaned closer to him. "Where are you from Thomas?" she grinned a little as she used his full name. "...SO ladies and gentleman, look to your right or you left because your neighbour will be your partner in all the upcoming assignments during this class"

Tom spared a glance to the front of the class as the teacher said that, and then looked back over to Roxy. He smirked, "Plenty of time to find that out, since apparently we're collegues now." It was good news that he'd be working with someone who was obviously pretty talkative. Maybe she knew something that could help his case along.
The teacher walked around to pass out assignments, so they had to shut up for a little while, so he wouldn't tell them off.

Roxy knew that they had to shut up now, in order not to get caught and lectured by mr. Jeremy. He was quite a cool teacher but only if you stayed on his nice side... Roxy was on the boarder of that nice side, because of her tendency of getting late. She couldn't help it that most of the first hours of school were taught by mr. Jeremy.
She glanced aside at Tom to observe him as he stared at the teachers desk in the front of the classroom. He was definitly a cute looking guy, unlike all the other slow-looking thugboys at Elkwood. Even though she was a senior, her fellow maleseniors still behaved quite boyishly. She thought Tom was different, he certainly looked different. More punkish or maybe even tough-guyish. Whatever it was, the look worked for him and it raised Roxy's attention. For the next few weeks she had the oppertunity to get to know this handsome guy and work together with him, and all her girl friends would be jealous, she knew. Whoever told her to lay low during this time of year and stay away from new nosy kids that didn't know anything about the way their school worked was wrong, Tom was a perfectly normal guy. SHe could befriend him, and she would.

As Tom pretended to listen to what the teacher had to say, he could tell that Roxy's eyes were on him. Curiously observing him, in fact. Thanks to all the times he had enrolled in high schools during the Jump Street program, he knew that this was the treatment you could expect as the New Guy. Moreover, Roxy wasn't the only one watching his every move. Every now and then a curious pair of eyes turned his way. Most people looked away as soon as he turned his eyes to them though. And in that aspect, Roxy was different. When he looked aside to her again, she just met his gaze.
He figured she might just help him meet people in this school. Because she was the 'pretty girl', Tom bet she had a lot of friends she hung out with. If he stuck close to her, it might be easier to meet them too. Plus, she didn't seem like bad company.
Before long, the bell rang, and both of them got up from their seats. Just as Tom wanted to say something to Roxy though, the biology teacher came up to their desk. "Thomas, could you stay for five minutes? I'd like to discuss what subjects you have had in your old highschool, to see whether you have any catching up to do. Tom's gaze went to Roxy for a split second, but he nodded at the teacher. "Sure." He said, and stayed behind as the rest of the class left the room.

Roxy had already packed her stuff more slowly than the others; she wanted to stay behind with Tom to talk to him, unfortunately mr. Jeremy trashed that idea. She past Tom, smiling at him 'Don't worry, he doesn't bite if you stay nice" she whispered to Tom before heading out of the classroom.
Instead of going to her next class, English, she decided to wait for Tom outside. He was interesting and she wasn't too keen on going to mrs. Gorham's class anyway. Gorham didn't like her, without a good reason really. Roxy had her explanations, one of them was that she probably reminded her of a bad high school time, after all mrs. Gorham was quite unattractive, which Roxy couldn't say about herself. "Hey Roxy, what are you doing here?" Estelle, a friend of Roxanne's walked over to her, she had just closed her locker when her friend caught her attention. "Oh, I'm just waiting for someone.." "...don't tell me you're waiting for the new guy" Estelle giggled Roxy laughed "You heard so soon? He's in my biology class.." "..and ? What does he look like? " "Not too bad" Roxy winked at her friend "Roxy! ... ugh, I should have known. You know Tony and Johnny won't like you hanging out with new kids, right? "I know, and I think they're overreacting. The cops were here two weeks ago, nothing happened since and it's not like new kids are interested in highschool-death or whatever.. they're too paranoid" "Fiine, whatever" Estelle rolled her eyes "I gotta go to class, I'll tell mrs. Gorham you're gonna be late, showing the new guy around.." "Great.. thanks" Roxy chuckled and watched her friend go. She leaned against the wall and waited some more for Tom.
