Astoria shut the door behind her and stood outside of the captains cabin for what felt like forever, just thinking. Yesterday she felt so good about herself when she managed to get Jack to believe that she was 18. But now she just felt dirty and used. There was no way she could live the rest of her life this way. And the way Jack talked about life at sea last night after they had finished. . . Well she pretty much knew what she was going to do before she decided.
Instead of going up on deck to leave the ship, she snuck down to the crews quarters were there were only two snoring pirates. The stench of body Oder and stale rum was strong, but it wasn't new to her- it sure wasn't enough to make her change her mind. It was pretty simple to find a pair of dark brown, almost black slacks that were her size, and a white blouse. She threw a brown vest on over the blouse to hide her breasts. Thankfully the boots she always wears pass for mens boots perfectly. Of course that wasn't enough. With the knife from her boot - the same one she held to Jacks throat last night - she began chopping away at her hair until it was just shy of shoulder length, then tied it back with a ribbon and place the tri corn hat she found on top. It was a complete transformation in less then ten minutes and she really wished she had a mirror.
Next she hid her female clothing in a deep dark corner of the ship where she was sure no one would find them until she had a chance to throw them over board. Now what? She wondered, standing there feeling a bit out of place. How do pirates act while waiting for orders? . . . She looked around then picked up a small sliver of wood and began picking her teeth with it and chuckled to herself a bit. After a few moment of doing absolutely nothing, she made her way back to were she seen the hammocks hanging and plopped in one with no problem. She slid her new hat over her eyes, crossed her arms over her chest and went on chewing on her makeshift toothpick as if she's been a part of this crew for years.

Jack walked out onto the deck seeing nobody there. He went below deck to get a bottle of rum and saw his entire crew sleeping.
"As you were, gents", he said not wanting to disturb them yet.
He noticed on person was awake when he saw their hammock swaying back and forth. Jack walked toward the hammock and saw a boy chewing on a piece of wood.
"You, sailor!"

Astorias eyes widened when Jack addressed her. She jumped out of the hammock and straightened her hat. "Aye cap'n" She said in the best guys voice she could muster up - and frankly she's quiet proud at how good it was.

"Who are you?" Jack asked. "I've never seen you around here."
He didn't care for stowaways on his ship. For some reason, this boy looked familiar.

She could have told him the truth he thought he was about to hear; That she was a new, male, crew member - a stow away. But she fully intended on doing the exact opposite. "Erm. . Cap'n" She said with a laugh and removed the piece of wood from her mouth. "Ya picked me up two ports ago. . . Said ye were runnin' low on crew after the storm." Okay, so the storm thing was probably a bit much, but there's always storms this time of the year.

"Storm?" Jack asked. "I don't remember a storm."
Jack decided to just shrug it off. He never really remembered a lot of stuff.
"As you were then", he said.
He continued his way to the rum cellar.

"Aye Cap'n" She says and slumps back into her hammock with a relieved sigh.

Timeskip
The Black Pearl set sail. Jack stood by the helm as they sailed away from Tortuga. He watched as the island grew smaller and smaller into the distance.
"I want movement!" he commanded the crew.

Astoria watched closely while the other pirates worked and did her best to mimic their actions. It wasn't as easy as she thought it would be but she actually managed to learn some of the easy things pretty fast. Before long the Black Pearl was out in open waters and she had a moment to relax. Looking down at her hands she sighed. They were scraped up and burning, but she didn't complain about it. Instead she walked to the bow of the ship and looked out onto the horizon. It was beautiful. She could take the new pains she felt in her entire body for this any day.

Jack was in his cabin while thet sailed. He took a break from chartering their journey for a drink of rum. When he picked up the bottle, it felt light. Jack looked inside and found it empty.
"Why is the rum always gone?" he asked himself.
He got up to get his second bottle of rum for the day. When Jack stepped out onto the deck, he saw his crew working hard. Except for one person. This crew member just stood at the bow.
"Sailor!" he called out.
Jack noticed this was the new boy.
