'It doesn't, but people are people and not even love can save them. The only way it lasts is through fiction and the only true love that actually lasts in reality is family, parental and child love,' she replied. 'I wondered after my father died, if my parents were ever truly in love.'

"My parents were in love," Tom said. "True love can exist in reality but you have to let it in," He said, he could say more but he stopped himself with their no-arguing rule.

'So are you saying that I shut myself out completely?' she asked almost bitterly. 'When I tried and look what happened to me! I have never been lucky or good with people. It's true, unless you want to prove me wrong.'

"And how do you suggest I do that?" Tom asked. "I'm just saying don't let one bad experience sour your opinion of the whole man species. Love can exist - just because your first boyfriend was an ass doesn't mean it will always be like that,"

'I don't know,' she admitted with a sigh. 'I know, I'm a bitter person...things will get better...eventually, I know. I have little faith, ok? I haven't had luck and it's not my fault, I've heard it before. I liked like atmosphere better a half-hour ago.'
She got up and kicked off her shoes. Emma sat beside him, clutching her cup of coffee. 'I haven't had many positive influences around me. You're probably the first one who hasn't given up entirely on me. And apart of me wants you to...because I don't...' she paused as if thinking over what she should say, 'I don't want you to get hurt. Mike is a bastard and I don't know if he will anything.'

"I won't get hurt, you don't have to worry about that," Tom told her, putting an arm around her waist to comfort her. "I'm trained to deal with jerks like him everyday, I've dealt with worse than him and I will go on and deal with worse after him as well,"

'I hope you're right,' she replied honestly. 'We need to stop talking about him, it only tends to make me feel down. We need another topic...films? Sports? I don't know.' Emma forced a laugh from her throat as her eyes followed the dogs chasing each other in play, 'I'm not a good conversationalist. I usually listen to everyone else. Tell me about something...your hobbies perhaps?'

"Hobbies.." Tom smirked a little. "Well, most the time work eats into my personal life so I don't really have a lot of time for hobbies ... but Friday nights, when I can, I'm in a bowling league. Bowling is my main hobby really, as you could probably have guessed," He laughed.

Emma watched him for a moment. 'That's all? You don't watch films with friends or go out to dinner with them?' she asked softly. 'If I had friends that's what I'd do...I just have Choco and Val. Maybe you should stop working so much...you should live a little...you have a life too.'

"Easier said than done," Tom smirked a little. "Anyway, I don't mind ... I have dinner with friends in my lunch hour, but all my friends work with me and the extent of dinner is Rocket Dog," He laughed.
