"It's not something you did. It's me," Anna said, talking quickly, like she didn't want to give herself a chance to change her mind again and postpone this conversation some more. When they got to her bedroom, she made Alfie sit on the bed and sat down next to him.
"I've been dating." She blurted out, after a deep breath.

Alfie stared at her for a moment with a frown on his face. He scratched the back of his head while he thought about what to say. "Oh ..." He said, frown deepening. "Like ... how many?" He asked, assuming 'dating' meant more than one guy in the two years.
