Tom glanced aside to her for a second.. and he instantly felt bad for thinking of the deceased-mother-story. After all, in his case, it was just a lie. For Roxy it was the solid truth, and he had just reminded her of something painful, probably. He couldn't change that any more though. He had to stick with it now. "Really?" He paused, and diverted his eyes back on the road. "I'm sorry to hear that." He mumbled.

"Yeah.. me too.. about your mom, I mean" She shrugged a little "I was too little to fully understand what went on. But my dad kept reminding me throughout these years of what she was like and all, so I kind of have an image of her that I treasure. I miss her, but after ten years it becomes less you know?" She tried to explain, but figured he probably knew that himself. "so yeah, now its just me and my dad, and ocasionally one of his girlfriends. He's been dating Sheri for two years now, she's a nice woman, nothing like a mom to me but she's okay.." She realised she felt way more comfortable to tell Tom things, it felt natural to talk to him about this stuf. "Did your dad ever re-marry?" She wanted to know. Her father was against remarrying because he liked to embrace what he had with his wife. He wasn't the marrying type and she was the only woman who had gotten him so far to marry her. It was their thing and he wanted to keep it that way. A thought that always made Roxy smile. Her mother couldn't be replaced, ever.

Tom listened as she spoke to him about her deceased mother, her father's situation and everything. He figured the least he could do was just to listen and be supportive. She seemed comfortable talking to him, so he wouldn't take that away from her. "No, my dad never remarried. He's mostly just busy working a lot, so he never really met another woman." Tom answered the question she asked him. He glanced aside to her for a moment, and smiled faintly. "It's good that you get along with your dad's girlfriend though. That's pretty rare."

"hm-hm, I know. That's why it wasn't like that when she first came around two years ago" Roxy giggled "I thought she was just a first class skank, I mean.. if you see her you might even think the same cause of what she wears and the extremely fake-blonde hair and nails and ..yeah, anyway we've had our fights for sure. But it turns out she's quite nice and it's better to get along with her than to keep fighting. I mean, if she makes my dad happy then why not right?" she smirked, not believing herself for telling all of this to Tom. He probably thought she was a weirdo, talking about her father's skanky girlfriend.

"Yeah, I suppose that's what it comes down to." Tom agreed with a smirk. Even if he lied, his own situation wasn't so different from Roxy's. Only.. his father had died, not his mother (unlike his story). So he could relate to what she was saying, and didn't find that conversation so hard now that she spoke easily about it. "So, she's not trying to mother you?" He figured, "I would hate for anyone new to try that. I imagine you would too."

"Oh god, yes. That is SO annoying" Roxy exclaimed "Noone gets that, all my friends think it would be good to have a new mom or something, but there's just noone that can be my mom you know? But no Sheri is thirty something and she thinks she is still young and happening. So I guess she sees me more of a friend then daughter...not like I have friends like that" she said ruthlessly "But whatever" she chuckled a bit. "My my.. I didn't know we had such things in comon, as horrible as they are..I am glad that there's at least someone of my age that I can relate to" she admitted.
He wasn't just some gorgeous looking guy anymore, he was more than that. He was her perfect crush, the guy that had a similar history as she, the guy that she felt comfortable around and happy with... the guy that she projected her feelings on.... "Okay..this is it" she said all of a sudden, waiting for Tom to pull the car over. Roxy undid her safetybelt and turned to Tom, "You think you can find this tomorrow? Or should I give you my phonenumber, in case you get lost and need to call me ?" Smooooth going Roxy! And not even planned! She thought to herself and felt proud that she took yet another step towards showing him she liked him. Sure it was also convenient in case he needed, but she hoped that once he would have her phonenumber the step for him to ask her out would be less big. If he was too scared to ask her face to face than no doubt he'd try it on the phone. He just had to.

Weird enough, Tom felt pretty comfortable talking to her, too. She was so much younger than him (at an age that it actually mattered in more than one way), but talking to her about how things were with just one parent seemed so natural. When his dad died he hadn't talked about it for years, basically. And even now he never mentioned it. Although his stories were a little twisted (dad was mom, mom was dad, and he was supposed to be a 18 year old), it was his own experience. He wasn't sure what made it easier. The fact that he was playing a role, of just.. because of Roxy.
She said she was glad that there was someone her age she could relate to. He related to her, age of no age. Ironically.
Tom pulled the car over when Roxy warned him they arrived. "I think I can find it." He said, turning the engine off. "...But eh, give me your number just in case." He didn't bother thinking to much about what was flirting and what wasn't now.

"Great" She smiled broadly, happy that he wanted her number nonetheless. Somewhere in her mind she thought that Tom had realised that he needed her number to call her for a date . "Gimme your hand" she said, lacking a notepad. She took a pen out of her bag and wrote her home phonenumber on the top of his hand, adding her name and a =) smiley to it. "Keys please" she chuckled "There's a busstop at the end of the street, unless you live naerby enough to walk" she knew that it had been kind of a weird way to show him where she lived. Weird but fun. If he didn't mind than she didn't mind either...

He checked the back of his hand when she finished, and couldn't help but smirk at the smiley face. Wonderful. He took the keys out of the contact of the car and handed them over. "I'll find my way back with the bus." He assured her, as they both got out of the car. "I'll see you tomorrow."

"Okay" Roxy got out of the car and when Tom was out as well she locked it and walked up the lane of her house. "Bye!" She watched him walk off and moved herself in the direction of the front door, every once in a while she turned around to watch Tom walk away, until he was out of sight. She walked into the house and closed the door behind it, then leaned against it and smiled broadly, feeling all in love.
"Who was that?" Roxy jumped up when she saw her father appear in the hallway. "Eh.. that was Tom.." "Who is Tom?" "My biologypartner... and the new guy" she mumbled, biting her bottom lip, not sure how her father would react. "..What did I tell you about new guys ?" He snorted and folded his arms "Roxy, when are you gonna listen to me and realise that I'm only doing this for you?" "I can not just ignore my project partner, dad.. thats impossible, it would give me a D and you know I can't use a D.." He sighed loudly "I know. How old is that kid anyway?" "eightteen..and he is coming over tomorrow so you can talk to him and see he's a nice kid" "..Tom who?" "Henderson" "Right" He mumbled, his thoughts elsewhere. He would ask one of the 16 year olds to get Tom's file from the school, to check out who was hanging out with his daughter.. "Nice perhaps, but useless to me.." "hm.." Roxy walked into the kitchen "I like him." "We'll see about that" he said, hinting that he first wanted to know more about this Tom Henderson before Roxy was allowed to hang out with him more.
